Hello All!

Inspired by another recent thread and last year's SW London Girls thread, I thought I would create a thread for those of us applying to London Day Schools. I have put independent as I think 11+ has passed for most of us. Anyone care to join?

I have a DD (10) who wants to sit CLGS and SPGS. Ideally she would like to be a music scholar so looking at schools with a strong music department that is a commutable distance.

Amidawish, many thanks, never thought I would be this nervous! :) Are you waiting to hear as well?

Similar feedback about SPGS from my dd, she particularly enjoyed the section about tulips.

DiHappy · 11/01/2017 19:01

sw15mum, best of luck! I think 10+ results come out a bit after the 11+.

As for LU, my dd said that math was completely different from the sample papers.

amidawish · 11/01/2017 19:29

DiHappy yes waiting for KGS and Surbiton.

not that i know of, i doubt it. exam was only on friday/saturday and they'll sort the 11+ first.

DiHappy · 12/01/2017 10:23

Amidawish, do you know how many kids approximately usually get called for a scholarship exam?

amidawish · 12/01/2017 12:05

hmmm have to estimate based on how many were waiting a couple of years ago, i guess about 20. The head was very new then and he could have changed thing since.

DiHappy · 12/01/2017 18:20

No news... waiving good bye to the scholarship.

Biw · 12/01/2017 18:31

Capes - that would be Falkner House girls. A very formidable girls prep in South Kensington.

Good luck to those waiting on a CLGS email today 🍀🍀

CLSG is a no for us, just got the email. Not a big surprise as dd found the comprehension hard! Hopefully she should not be too disappointed as it was not the first (nor the second!) choice. Last exam today, fingers crossed!

Pradaqueen · 13/01/2017 10:35

Ahh sorry to hear that Phaedra. We have a yes here which is a relief as it is my DD's first choice. Good luck today with your exam, will be thinking of you xx

Thank you and very well done to your dd!

The atmosphere of tension amongst other parents has been high at the drop off/pick ups for the exams this year, in my opinion. We stay away from that. Just glad today will see the end of our exams (CLSG, G&L, LU, SHHS - her decisions not mine). I remember at my son's 11+ a couple of years ago parents crying when their son disappeared into exam room. Hmm

For anyone reading this in future years, please relax about it all. It isn't good to stress your child and it certainly isn't the be all and end all.

easier said than done
the key is not to pass any of this stress onto your child. my dd is oblivious, she thinks she did great!

MN164 · 13/01/2017 12:40

Parents spend so much time preping and tutoring their child, perhaps they should spend more time getting themselves sorted out instead. A relaxed approach is worth a year of tutoring, in my opinion.

Recently heard a story about parents getting involved in university course work and their adult children asking for money for extra tutoring ... at university! Natural consequence of parental approach to education from 3 years old.

Sorry going way off topic there......

highclere · 14/01/2017 16:44

I did not notice this stressful atmosphere at the schools we attended although they were not the same Schools that you list. Possibly it has helped us as we aren't in a prep and know very few others sitting for these schools. I know when a large peer group is sitting it can be more pressured in the lead up but not something I have experience of. Generally parents and girls seemed relieved and talkative at the pick ups I attended although I didn't know others so didn't hang around chatting.

DOTLEYtheONEeyedDINO · 15/01/2017 08:11

Has anyone heard from KGS about the 11+ girls results? We've heard nothing. The boys heard last week so I understand.

amidawish · 15/01/2017 09:07

We're not at a prep either, there is no "atmosphere" or "stress". Only a handful of kids are sitting for schools and afaik we're supportive of each other/the process.

Dotley not heard re DD for KGS. I don't know anyone "in real life" who has heard. Interviews are next Saturday so will hear this week.

MaeMobley · 15/01/2017 12:00

Not heard anything for DD 11plus at KGS either.

MN164 · 15/01/2017 17:15

For what it's worth, ours are/were not at a prep school and where the only ones from their primary sitting those exams. It was an observation about other parents at open days and exams days .

DiHappy · 15/01/2017 21:08

We and 3 more people we know received an email from KGS last week stating that we should expect to receive a detailed interview invitation next week. We called the school after we heard from our friends that they received an email, and were told by the school that the email might have not gone through and they had to resend it to us.).

Hope your letters with good news are on the way. Good luck!

Pradaqueen · 16/01/2017 16:27

Does anyone know or have experience of how SPGS contacts parents for the next stage? The letter just says 'you will be contacted on Wednesday 18th Jan' is that an email like city or a phonecall or a letter? Thanks for the heads up if anyone knows!!

ealingwestmum · 16/01/2017 17:10
