6th Form entry Boarding School - suggestions please

We live in London. My son would like to board for 6th Form. He is very sporty - an all rounder, especially tennis, cricket and rugby. He is bright, good with languages but not in the highest academic achieving group. Could any mumsnettters suggest some boarding schools - co-ed or boys, not so far from London - which your children have postively experienced

St George's in Harpenden

I have friends who's children go there (non-boarders). It's got a good reputation.

Reeds School in Cobham, Surrey, sounds like it might be a good fit for your son. It is very sporty but also achieves good academic results, although perhaps not as stellar as others! It is co-ed in the 6th form.

You should take a look, it sounds like it might be suitable.

Do you want weekly or full boarding?
For weekly look at Cranleigh, Epsom College, St John's Leatherhead, Reeds.
Full - St Edwards Oxford, Kings Canterbury, Uppingham, Oundle.

Not so far from London would be Harrow, Haileybury, Rugby (a bit further), St Edwards, Oxford.I have freinds who have been pleased with all of these.

I know boys who went to Reeds who skied for England at Junior level and were able to spend c. 16 weeks of the ski season in France, supported by the school in their work... great flexibility...

My kids go to Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Reigate, Surrey. It's a state boarding school, so there are fees, but nothing like the private sector. They have a 6th Form.

If v good at rugger, Dulwich.

Then depends which side of London you are.

SE, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge, Kings Canterbury,
N, Harrow
W, Marlborough, easy to get to.

My DD just started in 6th form at Marlborough and loving it so far. Mostly girls coming in at this stage but about 8 boys joined.
