I have a relative who is moving into this area and this school may be a possibility for their DC can anybody give us any opinions , particularly about the behaviour in the classrooms as this is an issue at the current school .

It seems to have improved a lot in recent years and did suffer a bad reputation which it has struggled to overcome. For the brighter kids it is never first choice as they will choose the nearby grammars hence they go to all offered for top bands. It can also suffer from a poor ratio of boys vs girls as there are more all girls schools in the area that parents will choose over Coopers. I have friends children of both sexes go to Coopers and they are happy with it. I see Coopers children walking to bus stops and trains (from where I am as the main road gets chokka they often get a train to Chislehurst and then either walk or get a bus up the hill) and they are all well behaved and polite. Saying that another friend whose DD didn't pass the local grammar tests chose to move house last year rather than risk getting Coopers, Chislehurst school for girls or the Priory (now Harris Orpington) as they really didn't like the schools when they visited.

I don't know about the behaviour in the classroom as all my knowledge is second-hand. Hopefully someone else with more info will come along.

what school is better to go to Chislehurst hool for girls or coopers

Astronotus · 06/09/2018 13:21

Comprehensive type schools in, or generally accessible from, Chislehurst:

Coopers, Chislehurst School for Girls (was formerly called Beaverwood School), Kemnal Manor Boys, Bullers Wood Girls, St Thomas More RC, Eltham (Catholic requirements), Bishops Justus CofE in Bromley (40 non faith places plus a change of admission criteria for 2019).

Grammar schools in Bromley borough: Newstead Wood Girls, St Olave's Boys, both in Orpington. Own school test, two tier for St O's.

You can apply for the 4 Bexley Grammar schools over the borough border by taking the Bexley test. One of these grammars is Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School (co-ed) which is very popular and very close, in Sidcup. Many children who live in Chislehurst attend. One straight bus ride from Chislehurst.

You can also apply to the Kent grammar schools by taking the Kent Test. Coaches to Wilmington and Dartford schools run through Chislehurst.

Bullers Wood Girls and Chislehurst School for Girls are rated the best comps in Chislehurst by my friends. The new Bullers Wood Boys school is due to open in a temporary site in Bromley but will relocate back to Chislehurst once planning problems have been finalised.

My personal opinion would be for your relative to look at as many schools, their websites and their admissions criteria as possible. Coopers have a test to determine which academic band a student should go into. How they then "set" these bands, I am unsure of.

Hope that helps.

Cauliflower squeeze. Where did you get the number of 35 leaving?

Monkeys121 · 17/09/2018 23:22

would I get a place easier in Chislehurst school for girls school or coopers if I lived near Quen mary s hospital as coopers has a banding test but csfg has feeder schools in Bromley first is csfg popular or not anyone help

Rebecca36 · 17/09/2018 23:26

I've heard Coopers is a very good school, know people with children there who are doing or have done very well. They all seem quite decent kids when I see them getting off the bus in Chislehurst village or opposite where I live. Noisy and lively as they are all are but not badly behaved.

There are good grammars in the area though, if your friend's child can get in one of those it would be better. My neighbours kids went to Chis and Sid, in Bexley Borough but take people from bordering boroughs.
Others I know went to St Olaves or Newstead Woods.

However if they want a comp, Coopers is certainly better than most.
