The course DD has her eye on at South Wales was open in clearing for several weeks or longer last year, so she's hopeful it will be there again this year at least with a few places for maybe a few days, though we have set aside results day to try to be as efficient as possible in responding to whatever the situation is. Hopefully will get Swansea though - that's what I'll be hoping for.

I'm planning trips to the seaside at Mumbles for the ice-cream they promised us on the open day! 😀

bigTillyMint · 09/03/2017 21:56

DD had a great time in Bristol - stayed with bf, went clubbing, loved the uni and lecture (particularly research lecturers talksShock) and has firmed it!

Now she just has to get the grades. Gulp!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 09/03/2017 22:04

Good luck to her from a Bristolian old girl Tilly 😊

teta · 09/03/2017 22:32

Me too - loved Bristol as a child.
Good luck BigTillymints dd.

MirabelleTree · 10/03/2017 06:43

Another Bristolian here keeping fingers crossed for her! Was a great place to send teens and early 20's. I came home and spent a very happy year working in research at the University after I graduated, lots of interesting things going on.

teta · 10/03/2017 08:20

I don't know whether dd wil be going to Bristol.Offers came out last night and she hasn't heard anything. We are still waiting to hear from 3 universities now.Given that she was interviewed in November for two Its a bloody ridiculous wait and just too long to spend in limbo !
I'm irrationally furious this morning and could cheerfully murder someone.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2017 08:27

BrewFlowers teta. It must be incredibly frustrating for her, and you.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/03/2017 08:55

That's still three possibilities though teta and as everyone says she only needs one.

Fingers crossed for her X

MirabelleTree · 10/03/2017 10:42

FlowersNot surprised Teta, huge emotional strain on you trying to keep her positive and focused for all these months. Fingers firmly crossed for some good news very very soon.

Peaceandl0ve · 10/03/2017 10:52

Chin up Teta, my DD had all her interviews in Nov and Dec 2015 for 2016 entry, her Bristol offer came after March...

the other two rejected her before that time so on balance your DD is still ahead of the game.

She is currently at Bristol and working and playing hard and having loads of fun!

Peaceandl0ve · 10/03/2017 10:54

And forget the flower and wine, I could have done with valium and perhaps HRT to get me through it!

teta · 10/03/2017 12:19

Valium and HRT sound good peaceandlOve.I was just so hopeful of her getting into Bristol as I feel it would really suit her.Mirabelle you are right .We are both under huge emotional strain. Its not had a good affect on dd and she has lost confidence .
Ds1 has had a week of exams this week for Common Entrance ( these are worse then A levels) and ds2 has 11+ exams today .He's also playing up at school and pretended he'd lost his phone when he had it.He 's shot himself in the foot with regards to any scholarship now by staying up all night on his phone and pissing off the teachers.
Apart from that life is great!!
I have to keep reminding myself that they're all happy, healthy and stable and that's what really matters in life. Not ephemeral things.
Thank you for the support .You're all so lovely.

Bless you and your DD teta, it must be very frustrating just not knowing when everyone else seems to have had all their offers through. I don't blame you all for being fed up Flowers. I don't know why it takes medicine and vet med quite so long to give offers bearing in mind students need to apply earlier.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/03/2017 18:14

We're all thinking of you and your DD teta, all fingers and toes crossed for her XX

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2017 20:08

Yep crossing everything for her teta. It must be so difficult for vet and med hopefuls having to wait so long.

teta · 13/03/2017 13:54

Dd heard from Surrey today .... she's wait-listed and will hear more at the end of March.I'm taking it as positive news!!
Please keep on crossing fingers, toes and sending positive thoughts Grin.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2017 14:24

Huiuguig ... damn, can't type with crossed fingers.Wink blimey, the selection process for aspiring vets seems to be designed as a test of character. Good to know she's in the running!

Needmoresleep · 13/03/2017 14:40

Teta, I would echo what peaceandlove says. DD is sitting on a deferred place for medicine at Bristol so will start in September. She did not hear until April last year. I think unlike elsewhere vets and medics are taught separately. But either way hope she gets to meet your DD and, seemingly, lots of other DC, there. She is quite excited. It was her first choice.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/03/2017 15:01

That sounds encouraging teta ☺

I knew both medics and vets in Bristol Need more sleep, they were all lovely, and having a good time ☺

HSMMaCM · 13/03/2017 15:08

Teta I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her. Dd would have given up completely by now if she was still waiting to hear.

Peaceandl0ve · 13/03/2017 21:25

And of course, my DD is one of the lovely vets, having a super time at Bristol!

teta · 14/03/2017 08:47

Need more sleep , it would be great if they were all together in Bristol. My sister went to Bristol and is now a Senior Medic there. Her student lifestyle was Pims and Dinner Parties ,not the Pub and Jazz bars we went to in Liverpool.I'm glad your dd is enjoying it peaceandlOVe.How is the work load and the social life for your dd?

Peaceandl0ve · 14/03/2017 20:10

TETA, workload is undeniably heavy, she was in lectures till six today, went back to halls to go over todays notes, but she is off for a quiet drink with a friend later. She is also fining time to play a bit of sport and do lots of not gentle partying! Seems to be manageable for kids who have spent the last three years "doing it all" to secure their place at vet school.
The vets, and her hall seem to do a lot of socialising and it seems that the vets society form a very tight bond from the start.

Horsemad · 14/03/2017 22:41

We are off to Newcastle tomorrow. Quite a few from DS's school applying there, from what he says.

Juggling, has your DD firmed yet?

Teta, keeping everything crossed for your DD Smile
