Continuing from the year 12 - 13 thread.

Good luck with continuing studies, uni open days, driving tests, etc.

Glad the application went in HSM, even if it did go down to the wire!

Not seen DS1 since yesterday. He purports to be working at a friend's so I hope that's true. He's not heard back from his 5th uni (his top choice on paper) and as time goes on, I'm thinking they're going to say no.

HSMMaCM · 05/02/2017 09:55

Where will we all go after the summer Grin. We need to ask site stuff for an after sixth form, but not necessarily going to uni topic.

I'm planning to stay here until results day. Then I suppose it will either be on to further education, or maybe starting work? Who knows.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 10:36

Good point, maybe when the dust has settled after results, just start a thread as a continuation for this called something like 'After sixth form - further ed, work, gap year; flown the nest or not' ? I would imagine there will be a specific 'Freshers 2017' too, carrying on from the 'uni offers' one.

bigTillyMint · 05/02/2017 10:47

HSM, that's great - driving test, application in, head in books!

Namechange - sorry to hear your stories. It's scary how fast it can happen. I am now wondering if DD did actually have it - surely the GP would have it on her notes?

I agree, a new thread when we get to September would be great - whatever each DC is doing, like Errols idea.

dingit · 05/02/2017 11:23

I fear my Dd won't be going to uni, shes not working anywhere near as hard as she did for GCSEs, there's no way she will make her grades Sad I lay awake worrying about it, so I will need that thread.

Thank you to the person who bought up the meningitis jab, my sil died from it 14 years ago, she was just 32.

MirabelleTree · 05/02/2017 11:45

Oh Dingit, how sad about SIL Sad Sorry things not going so well with DD, I know lots of DC who have done a 3 year 6th form recently and things come good in the end.

I'll need a September thread as I suspect DD's transition back into education after effectively a year out will not be a smooth one.... it's all been topsy turvy here as we've already done the leaving home bit and now she's back!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 12:00

Dingit - what are her offers and realistic expected grades at the moment? Even if she doesn't meet the offer, clearing can work out well. One of my nephews ended up somewhere he hadn't planned, it suited his hobbies really well, and now he's elsewhere doing a PhD so presumably was academically fine too. Maybe scope out what sort of places might be available?

bigTillyMint · 05/02/2017 12:14

Oh Dingit, another sad loss to meningitis. And sorry to hear you are worrying about your DD. As Mirabelle says, another year in 6th form might be what she needs. Or maybe she will find a different path/course/pull her socks up.

dingit · 05/02/2017 12:23

Thanks everyone. She's working on her blasted Epq at the moment. The final draft is due in tomorrow then she has to do presentation on Thursday. She then needs to knuckle down over half term to study for mocks. She was predicted AAA, but her last set of mocks changed them to A* BC! The way she's going at the moment she'll be lucky to get CCC.
I really don't want her to go to a lower ranked uni to do an engineering degree. All we can do is wait and see.

HSMMaCM · 05/02/2017 12:39

Oh dingit, they're such a worry aren't they. DD's mock grades were down on her targets and her dance grade had slipped, due to an injury last year. It will all work out in the end.

Like Errol said, I know of several children who've done 3 years at sixth form. Then you have mirabelle's dd who likes to be different Grin

namechange7711 · 05/02/2017 12:45

Oh Dingit, they are such a worry aren't they?

DS1 didn't come home last night, having promised me faithfully he would be back between 10 and 11pm, so that today wouldn't be a write-off and he could crack on with some work. At 1am I managed to track him down and he said he was in a car being driven home, for me to go to bed and not worry because he would be back in 10 minutes. At 1:50am I phoned again and he was sleeping somewhere else, having changed his plans and not thought of telling me. I may have flipped just a tiny little bit! Blush Blush

I am deliberately not mentioning his EPQ which needs to be handed in on Friday.....

HSMMaCM · 05/02/2017 13:51

Name change I'm sending you calming vibes BrewCake

OP posts:
dingit · 05/02/2017 14:40

Name change I think you'll need some zzzzzzs 😴

teta · 05/02/2017 15:21

Ok,I have fought with DD today, have reduced ds1 to tears doing non-verbal reasoning with him ( really really hard common entrance ones even I can't do).Got irate with the people from Talknobile because they wouldn't upgrade me mid contract ( bloody phone hardly works) plus dd1 lost his work on the computer as she pulled the plug out.Could cheerfully scream.

bigTillyMint · 05/02/2017 15:41

Oh Teta, that sounds stressful!

As does your night, dingit - hope you are getting some zeds now.

I feel really relieved that DD opted to not do an EPQ!

All mine are out, so its R&R here.
But I do deserve it Grin

MirabelleTree · 05/02/2017 19:48

Hope you get a calmer and better night tonight Namechange. Teta that all sounds very stressful Wine

ono40 · 06/02/2017 10:42

Everyone is sounding stressed, roll on half term! I am sure my hormones are having a last hurrah and making me more snappy and PMT-ish than normal because for a few days every month I am totally unreasonable with everyone.

I hear you all on the EPQ - DS handed his in on 1st December but it took such a toll on his other work which slid behind. We are mid-mocks here. they have had the desired effect of giving him a kick up the backside as he realises just how much work needs to be done before the real things. Two more exams and the dreaded history coursework and that's it!

Dingit, would DD benefit from Easter bootcamp? DS went last year and despite resistance to the idea, ended up getting a lot from it.

dingit · 06/02/2017 11:15

Ono, think Dd would benefit from a boot up the arse. Seriously, we've had words again today ( by text). She is staying at school to help someone else with their Epq. I told her she she concentrate on her own work. I actually think that she's gone to see her boyfriend as she didn't see him at the weekend. I can only say that here. Sorry to rant.

HSMMaCM · 06/02/2017 12:14

Dd could do with a boot camp at Easter, but no way she'd go. She flounced out of the door today, because I've LOST a t-shirt she needs for dance. Not quite sure why it's my responsibility!

OP posts:
LittleHum · 06/02/2017 13:13

No EPQ or boyfriend thank goodness. Not sure which would be the most trouble. Grin

teta · 06/02/2017 14:44

Snap Ono am also hormonal at 52 and I think I'm SAD ( seasonal affective disorder). My Mum gets this badly and i've become slug-like this winter!
DD has parents evening this week - will be interesting to see what they say.I don't think she's working as hard as before ,but if I say that to her she stomps off in a huff. She did ok in her mocks with an A in her Epq but I still want the wind put up her sails as this year so much is dependent on the end of course exams.
Thank you for the Meningitis reminder .I wasn't aware of this latest vaccine

Fairenuff · 06/02/2017 18:07

Hi all. Just been reading through to catch up on all the goings on. I see our darling offspring are still causing us endless worry Grin

Empty nest? Can't wait! The house will stay tidy and there will be food left in the fridge for starters.

DS submitted his form fine. We've been to visit 4 out of his 5 choices and he's narrowed it down to 3 now. Two want to interview before they send offers so we are having to wait and get through all that first.

In the meantime, he has mocks after half term which seems quite sensible but learning to drive is taking forever!

ErrolTheDragon · 08/02/2017 23:57

DDs mocks done, but other subjects have some exams tomorrow so she has the morning off, hurray - I'm an owl not a lark, the good thing about empty nest for me will be the end of the tyranny of the 6:25 alarm.Grin

HSMMaCM · 09/02/2017 07:38

Errol now DD has her driving licence I can't tell you how lovely it's been. No missed buses to chase, no midnight pickups, no checking what she's doing at the weekend before we go out. Lovely.

OP posts:
HSMMaCM · 09/02/2017 07:39

I'm a lark and she's an owl. We are not compatible.
