Continuing from the year 12 - 13 thread.

Good luck with continuing studies, uni open days, driving tests, etc.

DD has been to one and is going to another next month - for her two possible firms. She has been to the general open days for the other 3.

ono40 · 01/02/2017 16:36

DS has been to one and is planning to go to Leeds once he turns 18 so he can visit the clubs which are legendary Confused.

Day 1 of the mocks here and typically he is running a fever again but we have a consultant appointment booked for 21st

ErrolTheDragon · 01/02/2017 18:37

Best wishes to him for both, ono

MirabelleTree · 02/02/2017 20:13

Good luck to him Ono.

Thought of you all earlier as was sat in school car park with DD before her Foundation Art interview. She was very nervous as had found that they were interviewing 26 for 15 spaces and I had a flashback to sitting in the car when going to get the GCSE results at the same place. She's been offered a place which is good news.

bigTillyMint · 02/02/2017 21:18

Well done Mirabelles DD.

Ono, he sounds like he would get on famously with my DDGrin

LittleHum · 03/02/2017 09:47

Hurrah Mirabelle. Lovely news.

dd has now pressed the button for firm and insurance. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2017 12:03

Thats great, Mirabelle!

DD's 18th tomorrow, but with mocks next week she didn't want a big celebration, not even dinner out. So DH and I have to do some cooking this afternoon.

MirabelleTree · 03/02/2017 12:31

Thank you. Milestone there then LittleHum, just the exams now then !

Happy Birthday to DD Errol. It is tough with the mocks looming, could she celebrate in half term maybe?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2017 14:43

I'm going to try to get her to organise so something with her mates but so far all we have on the calendar is interview at Nottingham, vaccination boosters (in prep. for summer hols) and her driving theory test. HmmGrin

MirabelleTree · 03/02/2017 15:42

Oh bless her ! Some home cooking sounds like a good idea, did you get her plant? Vaccination reminds me, does anyone know what the situation is with the meningitis injection?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2017 15:48

Two orchids.SmileAlso, courtesy of DH, a couple of ladybird books... Evolution and Quantum Mechanics.Grin

No, I don't know about the meningitis - if no-one else does I'll try to remember to ask.

MirabelleTree · 03/02/2017 15:52

Sounds perfect Errol Smile if no one else knows would be great if you don't mind asking, thanks.

teta · 03/02/2017 16:28

Well done Mirabelle's DD.
Happy 18th birthday Errol's dd Smile.
Littlehum your DD sounds very sorted. When do they have to decide their firm and insurance by?We are still in the land of not knowing anything Grin.

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2017 17:21

Mirabelle, I seem to remember DD and DS had injections in Y10 or 11. Not sure if they were for Meningitis or something else thoughBlush

Errol, your DD sounds very sweet and undemanding. Hope she has a lovely day.

Littlehum, that's good - she's obviously sure of what she's doing. DD isn't going to make a decision till she has been to the second Offer Holder day - this is quite unusual for her as she normally wants everything organised well in advance! I think it's Mayish, Teta.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2017 17:41

Or maybe indulged only who can hint rather than demanding?Grin

LittleHum · 03/02/2017 18:21

They don't have to decide until May so no pressure.

dd had two clear favourires which fall nicely into a high offer and a lower backup offer so there was no point waiting. She has already seen both places twice at the open day and offer days.

ono40 · 03/02/2017 18:55

DS has firmed Birmingham so that's it, despite a very nice email from Leeds saying they were very impressed with his application and hoped he'd choose them. He might meet up with your DD there BTM Grin

DS' birthday is the weekend of half term so we have organise a little trip to Rome and a meal at the Sky Gardens (think I might need to cut up the credit card now!)

They can have the meningitis ACWY vaccine at any time. I just need to plan DS' between bouts of fever so it is more tricky.

Well done to your DD Mirabelle.

Hang in there teta, the interviews will start coming after half term. she only needs one offer.

MirabelleTree · 03/02/2017 19:01

Thanks, that helps. I remember friend rushing her DD off to have it just before she left so think it might not be very organised here, will get onto it.

Fingers crossed you hear something soon Teta. Ono that sounds like a very lovely birthday and I'm quite jealous !

namechange7711 · 04/02/2017 12:50

I'm planning to book DS in for the meningitis ACWY jab over half-term. Our DCs will have had meningitis C when they were in Y11 (the new ACWY jab wasn't out then) and I've checked that there's no problem with them "doubling up" as it were, the C portion of the vaccine.

Meningitis W is the one that's a particular risk for teens/young adults, especially in halls mixing with large groups of new people. A school-friend of mine died of it, a few weeks after starting university. Sad

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2017 12:59

We have just got a letter about the Meningitis jab for DS in Y11. It will be given to Y9 routinely.

MirabelleTree · 04/02/2017 14:49

Oh namechange how sad Flowers The Brother of my housemate died over the Christmas of our final year. That is all very helpful , DD has now remembered her Year 11 jab and we'll sort the other very soon.

namechange7711 · 04/02/2017 15:22

Yes it's a dreadful disease. My DN contracted it at birth (although fortunately made a full recovery) - so we are very keen on being vaccinated in this house.

I don't check in every day, so wondering whether HSM's DD got her UCAS application in??

HSMMaCM · 04/02/2017 16:04

Lost you all for a while there. Mocks didn't go brilliantly, so dd has her head in the books now.

On the plus side, she's passed her driving test, so I no longer have to drive her everywhere.

OP posts:
HSMMaCM · 04/02/2017 16:06

Name change the application went in at midnight on deadline day with late references. Haven't heard anything back yet.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2017 16:17

Oh, congratulations on the driving! And it sounds like the mocks have been a wake-up call.
