I know juggling!!!!!!

TBH it could not worse timing, could it? The last throes of sixth form and she won't even be in school. Who knows if she'll be able to keep up with school work...she thinks she will, but I'm not convinced.

HSMMaCM · 06/01/2017 12:40

They're all getting more independent now aren't they.

Teta- link to your chat and we'll all go on there and say something nice Grin

Hsmm will pm you.Yesterday's news is todays chip paper.
GetahaircutCarl your DD will return poised, sophisticated ,mature and probably unrecognisable. What a opportunity for your DD!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/01/2017 19:30

DD had a nice low offer from Aberystwyth, but they have now emailed her saying that they are no longer doing the course she wanted to do. Perhaps they could have decided this before the offers went out...

She has a lowish offer from Lancaster, which is good. If she pulls her finger out and manages to pass her IB.

TheMortificadosDragon · 06/01/2017 20:12

Oh, thats a bit off - does she just effectively lose on of her 5 UCAS choices?

bigTillyMint · 06/01/2017 20:15

Can they just cancel courses when they have already sent out offers? Shock

Leeds2 · 06/01/2017 20:19

I hope she gets to add another choice!

ono40 · 06/01/2017 20:42

Horse, your DS is doing History as well, isn't he? My DS applied to virtually the same unis except he chose Southampton instead of Liverpool on the basis that he could get home faster if he was ill. We are still waiting for the Southampton offer though but I am sure he will firm Birmingham. He loved Nottingham's campus as well but Brum is much higher rated for History (first in the REF).

MrsS, that is very annoying and how do they know how many students will apply as the UCAS deadline hasn't passed? Maybe the funding has been cut or something?

DS has mocks at the start of February but needs to get his History coursework in first (last ever bit of coursework!!). Meanwhile I am starting all over again with DS2 who is in Y7. It is quite dispiriting when he is given the same homework as DS1 got in Y7.

Horsemad · 06/01/2017 20:51

Hello Ono, yes he decided on History eventually.
We looked at Soton (DS1 is there) but DS2 wasn't keen. I can't comment on their History talk as there were so many students, no parents got in!

Nottingham's was quite tedious imo. Was it your DS who received an unconditional from Brum? That was a really nice campus too, I thought.

Horsemad · 06/01/2017 20:54

I kept telling him not to base his decisions on the lecturer, Juggling Maybe he did listen to me after all! Wink

Although, I really liked York too and he didn't choose that one! Grin

ono40 · 06/01/2017 21:12

Yes Horse, Brum has a policy for the less competitive subjects where they give unconditional offers if you are predicted to exceed their standard offer (which I think is AAB). His gf has an unconditional for biochemistry as well but I think she prefers Bristol.

Nottingham was AAA, Leeds AAB (with A in EPQ), Newcastle was AAB, all quite similar.

TheMortificadosDragon · 06/01/2017 22:39

Brum is a nice campus, its rather nicely sited between leafy Edgbaston on one side and the curry houses of Selly Oak on the other (well, I assume they're still there) with a local train into the city (and out to other residential areas).

Horsemad · 07/01/2017 09:14

I love that Brum uni has its own train station! Smile

Auntpetunia2015 · 07/01/2017 18:21

Hello!! Been awol for a very long time. I've got a lot of catching up to do. Nice to still see some of the regular name on these threads..I will catch up now with how all the DC are doing with offers etc.

HSMMaCM · 07/01/2017 18:24

Me - how's the personal statement coming along dd.

DD - well I don't know if I'll go to uni, so I haven't done it yet.

Me - ok, well if you're not sure, it's probably best to do the application anyway

Hi HSMMaCM. I can imagine the less calm response.

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/01/2017 19:46

We heard this morning that DD will start work next Monday so she will fly out with DH on Friday Sad.

She is very excited and I know it is the opportunity of a lifetime. But boy it's tough...

JugglingFromHereToThere · 07/01/2017 20:25

Tell us a bit more about what she's going to be doing GetAHaircut?

From the outside it sounds tremendously exciting!

Welcome back AuntP Flowers

I guess there'll be quite a few personal statements getting polished off tomorrow HSM, she'll be in good company if she decides to apply this week. Why not apply I'd say ... you don't have to accept a place if you later decide it's not for you? Good luck Flowers

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/01/2017 20:28

She's going to be in a film.

It's mostly being by shot in the Atlanta area and DH has a partner there who is happy for her to live with them for the initial period ( which is so nice of them ).

It's going to be great. But I will miss her and I worry that she will be out of school.

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/01/2017 20:31

I also worrry that she will be in an industry that swallows young women whole!!!

HSMMaCM · 07/01/2017 20:31

Getahaircut that sounds really exciting / scary.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 07/01/2017 20:59

Hopefully young people are looked after better now than a few years back?
I vaguely know (of) a young man who's made a couple of movies
(vaguely reassuring?! Confused)

Has she considered re-doing Y13 if she finds she needs to/ it might be helpful?

MirabelleTree · 07/01/2017 21:03

Skype and Line will be your friend and you'll be surprised at how much you still feel involved in the small details of her life Flowers

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/01/2017 22:54

Thank you so much for your kind new messages.

I know we're just strangers but it is so very very nice.

I need to chill out out about DD. She'll be fine. Her A levels may suffer but she has several options available. An unconditional at Birmingham. A good chance of a place at Berkeley ( where they don't worry about A levels) and possibly a place at RADA ( she is through to the third round).

And yes she can redo yr 13 if necessary.

I need to chill Grin.
