Well done bigtillys Dd.

I got all excited this morning when Dd texted me, but it was to find out when I was ordering her new phoneConfused

She does have an interview at Loughborough, but we need some other offers to decide if she's going as it's very high grade requirements for a long trip.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 15/11/2016 11:55

Yes, hard to wait patiently for an appointment with the right person Tilly, but I guess they have their systems at school which are mostly helpful, and I think it will be off by end of November which is hopefully good enough (even a January application would probably make little difference?) But will be great when it's in!

Getting your first offer sounds very exciting!

Also will be a great summer post A levels for a little bit of adventure I think?! That sounds fun Smile

aginghippy · 15/11/2016 12:08

It's true, Juggling, the unis are supposed to treat all applications equally if they are submitted before the deadline.

My dd ended up waiting a couple of weeks to show her personal statement to a particular teacher. She was not worried about it, but a bit jealous of her friends who were already receiving offers and invites for interviews.

She finally saw the teacher on Friday and then submitted her application as soon as she came home that afternoon. Definitely a nice feeling to have it done and dusted!

teta · 15/11/2016 12:15

I'm trying to encourage dd1 to stay positive but failing in that myself Blush. We've still only had one interview and heard nothing from the other units.dd1s friend has had an offer already and 3 interviews ,so dd1 is finding it hard.Lots of interview invites are being issued at the moment so realistically if she hasn't heard by mid-December she will most probably be heading for clearing or a gap year.I have another issue with ds1 and his school ......so could do with some uplifting news!

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2016 12:21

Oh Teta, fingers crossed for your DD. And hope the issue for DS1 gets sorted.

Yes it will be an exciting adventure for them - 2 cities and a resort and DD the only one who has done a lot of proper travelling.... Glad I will be at work/home Grin

teta · 15/11/2016 13:33

Dd1 has got 2 more interviews! hooray .
Surrey and Liverpool .
Now all I need is to hear back from ds2's school.Who rather suspiciously have not responded to my 3 emails and normally answer within an hour.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/11/2016 13:50

Teta Whoop! Blimey, I bet you (not to mention your DD) are pleased! Having a friend applying to similar (same?) courses and hearing a bit earlier must have been winding you all up horribly.

HSMMaCM · 15/11/2016 14:08

Dd still hasn't finished her application. I think it's mostly because she's not really sure what her plans are. I'm trying not to push her because she hates that.

OP posts:
teta · 15/11/2016 15:52

Errol this friend is applying to the same universities and course.Of course Dd1 was pleased for her friend but its hard to plod on in those circumstances.
HSMMaCM its very hard to handle children/teenagers like that.Sometimes the more pressure you put on the slower they go.Though it must be difficult writing a P.S. if you're not sure what subject you want to study.
BigTillyMint I can't believe your D, is planning that far ahead .Mines only planning as far as the next few weeks.Though she has broached tentative plans for travelling - to which dh said no!
Considering he moved continents at 17 and has lived in Malaysia,Australia and UK plus H.K./China and we spent several years in h.k. I don't really think he can stop her.Grin.

HSMMaCM · 15/11/2016 16:06

Thanks Teta- if she goes to uni, she wants to study psychology, but she doesn't know if she wants to go, or where yet.

I keep waiting for the day she talks about travel or doing anything really that would be scary for me Grin.

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2016 16:19

Teta thats great news for your DD Wine

HSM, I can imagine it must be really hard when shes not sure what she wants to do.

My DD likes everything to be planned and settled in advance. She did an impressive spreadsheet though by hand - not on the computer!) of flights/times/costs etc and was getting very wound up by trying to take the variables of 5 other girls into account!

dingit · 16/11/2016 19:44

Dd has an offer from Surrey. A nice email on the eve of her 18th birthday Smile

HSMMaCM · 16/11/2016 21:38

Great news dingit

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 16/11/2016 22:36

So pleased, Dingit! And happy 18th to her - is she doing anything special?

DD went off to Manchester for interview today, think it went ok.

teta · 16/11/2016 22:51

Brilliant news Dingit.
I hope your daughter will be able to party in style!

ono40 · 16/11/2016 23:11

Great news to all those getting offers. I think the UCAS is finally going tomorrow after the head of sixth form chased the history teacher to complete everyone's references and then bawled him out for writing similar stuff on each one. Anyway, it's now with the head teacher (how many people need to see it for heaven's sake?!) DS asked what happens if they get no offers - anyone know?

BTM, DS has just told me he is going inter-railing with a group of 5 friends in July. The girlfriend doesn't seem to feature in this list though Confused.

dingit · 17/11/2016 07:26

Thanks everyone.
Errol, ice skating at Somerset house then supper in Covent Garden, family party on Sunday.
Teta , if she doesn't get offers they can use UCAS extra, but don't fret, she will!

dingit · 17/11/2016 07:27

Sorry, I meant Ono.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 08:44

Dingit - wow, that sounds great! I rarely envy people living in or anywhere London EnvyGrin

dingit · 17/11/2016 09:05

Errol she's always in London shopping/ wandering round. Costs me a fortune on her Oyster card. I think her boyfriend is taking her to dinner in Leicester Square tomorrow. Is it me, or are teens much more sophisticated than we were?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 09:15

Mine isn't but we don't have good access to public transport here which limits her options. She's not really a townie anyway.

bigTillyMint · 17/11/2016 17:08

Dingit, it sounds like she has a few lovely celebrations lined up - lucky girl Smile

Ono, hope it has gone off?

ono40 · 17/11/2016 19:22

Yes, DS finally got a message from UCAS saying they had sent his application off but now he is worrying in case he doesn't get any offers. I think he will as he has been sensible and gone for one aspirational, three achievable and one fall back option but he is feeling nervous.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 20:51

I'm sure he'll get some, ono. I think most of them worry, especially when their peers start getting interviews and/or offers before them but it really is still quite early in the process.

Once the application is in, it's a bit like buses, you wait and then...

Following interview yesterday, DD's just got an offer from Manchester, AAA. And also heard today she has a cambridge interview.

Horsemad · 17/11/2016 22:32

All these applications going in and offers are exciting!

Errol - Cambridge interview, brilliant. ☺ I've been meaning to ask the Mum's of Oxbridge applicants - how does the student decide which college to choose? Is it a gut feeling after maybe visiting a few or is the college choice governed by what subject they apply for?
