Nowhere near receiving offers here.Dd1 has completed the work experience sheet for Liverpool.Just one problem there's only space for three lots of farm experience.Given that she's done Five placements ,this means she doesn't have the minimum ten weeks of experience needed for an interview listed on the sheet .She's just said its a completely wasted application even though the PS. Lists 10.5 weeks. But apparently Liverpool don't even look at the P.S.She's submitted the Surrey questionaire ( hypothetical questions )back to Surrey and has two days now to do the Situational Analysis for Nottingham.Lamda tonight, cello ensemble tomorrow and D Of E starting Saturday .

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2016 15:29

Was there really nowhere to mention the other two placements? That sounds overly rigid. Well, if Liverpool don't read her PS it sounds like it'll be their loss Teta - she sounds awesome! Hope the weather isn't too bad wherever she's off for her DofE.

LittleHoHum · 19/10/2016 16:03

First offer for dd3. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2016 16:30

Oh good! (I take it from the Smile it's one she's happy with)

LittleHoHum · 19/10/2016 16:32

Yes. It is the one with the highest grade requirement so hopefully that bodes well for the other choices.

HardcoreLadyType · 19/10/2016 16:36

That's bizarre, teta.

Has she checked with admissions about how she should show all her placements? There must be some way, surely?

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2016 16:39

Oh yes, if she thinks the application is wasted anyway then an email to the admissions tutor can't possibly do any harm.

LittleHoHum · 19/10/2016 16:39

That sounds like a nightmare application teta. I suppose they will see the information in the PS.

HSMMaCM · 19/10/2016 17:08

Dd is still working on her personal statement. They started them in the summer term after exams !

bigTillyMint · 19/10/2016 18:08

Same here, HSM!

HSMMaCM · 19/10/2016 18:23

Glad she's not the only one BTM.

At DD's school, they all have to be done and dusted by the middle of October.

TBH, I think it's a good idea, as now they can concentrate on the curriculum. Mocks are usually in January, I think, so waiting to the final deadline might clash with those.

One school local to us insists they are done over the summer break, so as not to impinge on school time, at all!

Horsemad · 20/10/2016 07:09

Parents Evening for us tonight. DS still not decided which course or which uni. PS not started yet.

I am going to speak to the member of staff who is his uni mentor I think, to have a chat and see what they think.

dingit · 20/10/2016 07:44

Dd is starting to stress as a few of her friends have offers. Her application hasn't gone if yet. Argh.

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2016 08:37

Parents evening for DD tonight too, Horse. Hope you can get some support. Does he actually want to go to uni or would he be better doing a gap year and thinking about what he wants to do next? My GodD is doing just that.

Hardcore, DD would have liked to have hers done and dusted, but she had to wait for the Oxbridgers/Meds, etc to get out of the way for support from the teachersGrin

DD went in happy as Larry this morning, having been to a gig last night in a club that I used to go back in the Dark Ages Grin

teta · 20/10/2016 08:41

Dd has already sent the work experience form to Liverpool.I don't know whether it's too late and will now be seen as parental interference. The other university applications certainly didn't have any such restrictions on work experience.Anyhow all other stuff, questionaires have all been done and submitted - thank God!

It's a bit stressful that some students have already had offers and some are yet to submit their applications.Horsemad ,i sympathise ,by the law of averages ( with 4 dc's) I will probably have one in that predicament.

HardcoreLadyType · 20/10/2016 08:49

Sorry, it wasn't meant as a criticism of your DD Tilly. Different schools do it differently, I know. Actually, my DD's friend at the other school I mentioned, where they have to get their applications done in the summer, feels she might have chosen a different Cambridge college to the one she has applied for, if she'd had a bit longer to research.

ono40 · 20/10/2016 09:38

DS is finalising his personal statement apparently and aims to get it to the head of sixth form tomorrow. He has been onto the UCAS site to register and it took ages to work through all the questions and enter all his GCSEs etc. When do we need to register for student finance or whatever it is we have to do?

DS is starting to feel the heat as some friends already have offers including one unconditional from Birmingham (not sure what course but that friend is an Oxbridge candidate so unlikely to take it up).

Surprisingly I have loved my career although I am very atypical of those in the profession. My original choice of law would have been disastrous for me on reflection! Funny how life turns out.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/10/2016 09:47

Teta, I guess in your place if she mentioned it again or you think its bothering her, I'd suggest mailing the admissions tutor - thats not interfering just offering advice she can take or leave.

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2016 10:01

Ono, I wonder if Birmingham do unconditionals to those with good grades/obvious Oxbridge applicants because submitted early? Friends DD got one last year and has taken it up and is loving itSmile

DD would love an unconditional offer!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/10/2016 10:17

Oh, the unconditional DD's friend has is also from B'ham, for philosophy - she's also applied to oxford. Maybe its their strategy, bagging some good candidates. I would guess this approach is more likely to be applied in subject areas where the content of specific a levels isn't a necessity for the degree.

HardcoreLadyType · 20/10/2016 10:18

DD's BF (now at Cambridge) had an unconditional from Birmingham, but he chose Manchester as his insurance.

I know Birmingham has a good reputation, but I'm not sure what they achieve from their policy of unconditional offers. I guess they are hoping for a lot of people who may have just missed Oxbridge.

It sort of seems to devalue the university, a bit, though.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/10/2016 10:28

I thought the unconditional offers were only if you put them as first choice?

aginghippy · 20/10/2016 10:35

DD is jealous of her friends who already have offers, but she doesn't seem stressed about it. She showed her ps to a teacher who liked it, only suggested a few minor changes, so she is feeling positive.

They can apply for student finance now, if they want. The deadline is in May or June. You have to put course details on the form, but they can update it later if needed.

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2016 10:52

Errol, I think DDs friend did!

Thanks for the info about stuent finance ah!
