GCSE remark advice

Just looking for some advice my DS scored 3 A's in three subjects all of them one mark off of an A, would it be worth a remark to try and achieve an A any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depends why he wants the A - does he have a place in sixth form/college doing the subjects he wants? Does he think having A will give him an advantage later on? If it's just to be able to say he has A* rather than A I don't think it is worth it.

Will he be looking to apply to Oxford? Because they do look at GCSEs, and they want a string of A*s.

So, if he has, say, 5 A* already, it might be worth it to try to boost the number he has.

Will it make a difference to his 6th form choices (I doubt it, TBH.)?

Otherwise, it's probably just for his personal satisfaction. And if it's important to him, and you have the money, I don't see why not.

I would say yes, go for it. Nothing to lose except some money. Marks can go down also but wouldn't affect the grade if it's near a high boundary. S
Exams that require more subjective marking like English, History are more likely to have marks change than STEM subjects. My son's Eng Lit went up to A* last year(was 2. Marks off originally) and it really boosted his confidence, particularly if it's in a subject they are doing at A level. As an Eglish teacher I would recommend remarks to a few pupils every year and some do move up a grade. If you don't do it you will always wonder about it.

I would do, if he's going to be applying to top universities. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Take note of the wise ouster who has advised mn of the changes to remarks. Basically it's only to recheck the totting up not to remark from scratch. So only an issue with arithmetic will change thjngs

There is a clerical check or a full remark. A full remark costs more.

If you can afford it then why not. Nothing to lose as although the second score counts (even if lower) it would be almost impossible for him to be dropped enough marks to drop down to a B.

Am I being daft? I thought the remark thing was initiated by the centre (college or school) rather than parents?

Ok. I had never heard of a parent contacting the exam board directly. I also would imagine the teachers might have a better idea of whether it was worth asking for a remark.

Thanks for explaining. Sorry to derail the thread. I worked in a secondary school for many years and only ever heard of teachers requesting remarks.

We applied for an "urgent photocopy" of an AS script in similar circumstances. It arrived within days and DS is going to go through it with his teacher to decide whether a remark is worth it - the deadline for re-marking has enough time to allow this.
