Failed GCSE. Should I appeal?

My son has received his GCSE results this morning. He has failed the ICT exam. Earlier in the year his teacher told him he had done enough work to pass his practical (score of 30, he needs 27 to pass) and to concentrate on revising for his written exam. He has passed his written exam, but only scored 26 for his practical, hence the fail. Am I right to appeal?

You can usually ask to have things remarked.

It's straight-forward to get exams re-marked but much more difficult for practicals (coursework).

You won't really be able to I'm afraid. The entire cohort would have to have their coursework remarked and agree to that.

C/W marks may have been moderated down a few marks by the exam board and it would have been for the whole cohort based on a sample. It happens I'm afraid. Not much you can do about it.

Is there any chance of getting the written paper remarked to try to make up the difference there?
