Evening all, my eldest daughter starts secondary school soon!! She has been told to bring a fiction book to read.
Does anyone have any recommendations...?

She is not overally kean on reading so would benefit from something that will be interesting, funny and probably quite true to real life..

Any ideas greatly appreciated
Xx

Bear with me. I recommend the Roman Mysteries. Great stories but believe it or not, my daughter got great marks in Latin and History in year 7 and it was due to reading those books! Written by Caroline Laurence

Another oldie "Marianne Dreams" by Catherine Storr. It's a gentle fantasy novel about a girl whose drawings come to life. Dd loves it.

Car Jacked by Ali Sparks
Wonder (truly amazing book that everyone falls in love with, even those that don't usually like to read, true to life and funny)
Harry Potter (if she hasn't read them yet - my 11 year old is working her way through them and says they are much better than the films)

My just turned 12 dd has been off reading for a year or two now, but just read 'Goodbye Stranger' by Rebecca Stead and couldn't put it down (she'd also liked 'Liar & Spy' by the same author). She also really liked 'Picture Me Gone' by Meg Rosoff. Sadly she will read one book she loves and then it's back to square one trying to find another to tempt her off the screens (losing battle...)

My dd is 11 and has recently read

The Hunger Games
Warrior Cats (she loves these and is on her 4th box set!)
Toms midnight Garden
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole
The Lie Tree
Wolf Wilder
Cog heart (currently book of the month in waterstones)

She also still likes Jaqueline Wilson books and has read quite a few over the past few years.

My daughter starts secondary in September she generally reads dystopian fiction or tear jerky things like Tge Fault In Our Stars or All The Bright Places. She's just read the Twilight Series - v trashy but she read the whole series in a couple of weeks.

Some suggestions

Hunger Games
Divergent
Harry Potter
Book Thief
The Golden Compass

Zoella has a Book Club and the books in it aren't bad so worth looking at.

Things by Terri Terry (yes terrible name but books OK)

Maggot Moon
The Boy In the striped pyjamas

These are a few off the top of my head but happy to go through her bookshelf for more ideas.
