How much would your 16/17 year old expect to earn from a Satuday job

We are thinking if getting a young person in to assist us, it would be 90 minutes per week on a Friday and 90 minutes on a Saturday helping with a children's activity.

Anyone who has children of that age (have to be over 16 because of CRB) how much would they expect to earn? I know the rough going rates for shop work but as that usually involves a whole day weould we have to pay more per hour to make it worth while?

Would it make a difference that it could be very good experience for someone wanting to go on to work with children/apply for PGCE etc?

Well I pay my babysitter £5 per hour, she is happy that it is sometimes only a couple of hours....

It might depend on the time you need them there - if you are just looking for a couple of hours in the middle of Saturday you might have to pay more to compete with a shop which could offer more hours - but if it was the start/end of the day you might have more luck?

Most places pay the national minimum wage which applies to 17 year olds (can't remember if applies to 16 yrs olds). 18 year old minimum wage is slightly more. Just google it.

My 17yrs old was happy just to get a job, didn't look for specific payment. Turns out his hourly rate is slightly aove minimum wgae.

Friday is staright after school 4.00pm - 5.30pm. Saturday is more of a problem in the mmiddle of the day 2.00pm - 3.30pm.
