DD had this and still couldn't cook at the end of it. Maybe it is like her school and do one term of food, one of sewing and one of resistant materials (woodwork, metalwork and plastics) so on average there is only a small amount of technology(?) subject

Birthdaybeetroot · 30/01/2007 09:25

yes it is only for a term they don't cook, just written stuff which ds2 finds all incredibly boring.

DD spent a lot of time in food doing industrial stuff like designing pizzas and snacks total waste of time DS now at same school has learnt about nutrition, food safety, learnt how to do pastry, sponges, rice and pasta so there are overlaps with science and maths same teacher so things have improved

Ds2 says he would be happy if they were cooking but he hates doing work sheets.

ds1 does not have it as he has music practice!

I cannot imagine anything more boring than cookery lessons with no cookery. What will he ever remember or gain from doing a load of worksheets?

hercules1 · 30/01/2007 19:59

SOrry need to post more. What a waste of time for your son. THere are so many ways to teach a subject and this way using worksheets is one of the least effectual after being lectured at.

hercules1 · 30/01/2007 20:00

Sorry more. Can you ask the school if he could be allowed the time to do work from other subjects instead?

Itcouldhavebeenbeetroot · 30/01/2007 22:05

hercules - I was wondering if I should - it sounds so tedious doesn't it

one question in his prep today was

how many minutes is the kettle on per day!
