What do kids do with their locker keys on sports day?

They've got to go in their kit. Shorts and polo shirt - no pockets. Are keys on a string round the neck and worn under shirt safe for sports? If not, what are the alternatives?

Most of DS's school wear blazers over their sports kit on sports days.

Ours still have their bags. It's all day so they have water, books etc with them as they only do one or two events each.

Sounds sensible, raspberry, but our's do not carry bags around with them normally - all go in lockers so they are 'bag free' in school.

I'm thinking at this stage it'll either be keys on string around neck or taking nothing into school (finger print account for canteen). Just hope it doesn't chuck it down with rain!

I've no idea about school sports days, but when I go for a run I lace my house keys into my trainers so they're attached to my shoes, would that work?

Thanks, Scribble, it probably would work for some, but DS's trainers have Velcro and knowing DS it would just be too fiddly and they'd get lost. Thanks anyway.

Safety pin the key to the waist (shorts or shirt). String round the neck is risky.

Hmm, in theory sounds good, Blue but with DS I'm thinking a safety pin would be equally risky! I'm hoping the school have thought of this and they'll be leaving belongings / keys in form rooms or something and DS just hasn't told me.

He could, Knitted but it is likely to be uncomfortable or drop out and get lost. Sorry to sound so defeatest. I posted to check I was not missing any obvious solution really. Well he's got some options at least.

If it's a small flat key it should be fine. I'd put it in my sock and it would stick to the bottom of my sweaty foot!

Could he elastic band it through a button hole!?

On a wrist band (like the ones you get at spas?)

Or give it to his form tutor for safe-keeping (take it in his pocket in the morning in a named, sealed envelope).

It might be that he doesn't need his locker key on sports' day, but do check what the school has told the students or emailed home as in some cases there will be a policy that if it rains there will be usual lessons and therefore students will be in trouble if they don't have their books. (Again, you could make a judgement call based on the weather in the morning on the day and forecast).

Our DS's school provides a small fabric 'valuables pouch/bag' with children's name stitched on it. The pupils can put in them keys, watches, phones, etc. handing them to teacher for safe keeping . However, my DS doesn't like 'chasing' after his teacher at the end of the day so he keeps his key on a large safety-pin attached on lower part of PE T-shirt. He never lost his key so it works really well.

Thanks everyone for your replies. In the end DS did not take anything that needed to go in his locker. This was fine, they were told they just needed water (which he had). They had sports day all day and he had a fantastic time by all accounts!
