DS going to highschook by himself.

DS starts highschool in September and has so far been convinced that his best friend O is going to the same school and has made plans to get the train together.

However, after a meeting at the school today the pastoral care person told me DS is the only boy going there from his primary school, there are 3 girls going, DS gets in with them but there's a lot of girls and boys only close friendship groups at the moment.

They told me that his friend O is 100% not registered to go there in September.
I said I'd break it to DS so he knows what to expect but they've advised not to get involved as he'll make friends really quickly anyway and forget about his primary friends.

I feel awful doing that! I'm not sure if I should tell him or not.
He's already worried about fitting in and making friends, he's a tiny 11yrmold and has a lot of chronic health issues so he's already anxious.

Is he going for a taster day? Make sure the primary school have flagged up he's the only boy so they can buddy him up with someone. They put my dd into a form with two girls she clicked with at taster day because she was on her own too. She went on to make different friends and is really happy at the school now.

Oh and I don't think you have any choice other than to tell the truth about his friend going elsewhere.

He is sociable boy and makes friends easily I hope he'll be alright, I will talk to him so he's at least prepared.

I think you should tell him. Far better that he has time to get used to the idea than that he turns up on day one expecting to see his friend. I also think it is rather strange that his friend is making these plans with him - does he not know where he is going to school or is he refusing to believe that he will be be with your DS?

Our school did an extra induction day for kids not coming up with anyone else from their school to meet each other which i thought was nice. Ask if they do anything like that. It's strange that the other boy seems to think he's going to the same school!

The school is right, once dc move to secondary they mix with all sorts of other people and often make new friends even if they move up with someone.
You can practice the journey in the holidays so he's confident about that, and will no doubt make friends with others travelling the same way.

You'd think his friend would know! I don't know if it's his friend genuinely not knowing or having DS on (not that it's funny!)

I have spoken to him and he swears O says he's going but I told him that he's not as far as the school are aware so he needs to prepare himself to meet some new people and make some new friends. He seems ok about it, he does make friends quickly, when he's in hospital he always ends up with a friend or 2 in the first couple of days.

I'm sure he will be fine, just normal nerves.
