The thread that got us all through the exams is now full so here's a new one to get us through the nervous wait for results

Well done to all our brave Y11s and wish every last one of them all the best

Flowers for anyone that might need them today.

DD has enrolment day tomorrow. She's changed her mind so many times about what she wants to do - from A levels, to BTEC and back to A levels, but the third A level is a very last minute choice - so I hope it works out! We're getting quite close to the end of the thread now. Please don't abandon me without making it very clear exactly where we're going to re-camp to!!

Good luck to everyone x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2016 10:10

Let us know how the appt goes Knitting.

I wish there were more hints for them about what they might need to take along. I know its up to them now, but going from exercise books to all organise it yourself could have some interesting consequences.

One thing I did suggest to dd to buy was a hole punch to take with her, so handouts can theoretically be filed straightaway.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2016 10:12

I'm so torn about where we recamp to. My stubborn side says we should go into Further Education, but as has already been said, its dead in there and noone will find us. We could be Topic Revivers.

Ot we could do as all the others have and just start a new thread in Secondary.

MsMermaid · 30/08/2016 10:54

Lots of people use active conversations to find things don't they? I know I do. I vote for further education and trying to revive the topic.

We've got to go to the go today to discuss dds click ankle and panic attacks (never to do with school, just talking to people). I also need to find time to get us all haircuts.

TheSecondOfHerName · 30/08/2016 11:51

Yep, same here. It's discombobulating, especially as I have Aspergic traits (my father and DS2 have AS and it did not fully skip a generation) and I like to know exactly what is going to be happening and start micromanaging planning it.

raspberryrippleicecream · 30/08/2016 12:31

DS1 took DD to Staples to get her folders etc, as he has just finished sixth form he should hopefully have her sorted.

As DDs sixth form is continuation at the same school, it doesn't feel like FE, but will follow the thread wherever!

MsMermaid · 30/08/2016 13:04

Raspberry so is your ds1 of to uni now then? Where is he of to?

FantasyAndHope · 30/08/2016 13:43

Alevel induction is next Tuesday 2-5:30pm DD will have to arrive late she would be going back Tuesday for Wednesday anyway but her train is at 3:00pm no earlier train without changes and she'll have heavy luggage so don't fancy her changing trains

Iwantacampervan · 30/08/2016 14:13

Daughter's enrolment is tomorrow - hopefully she'll continue with her original choice of A Levels, she hasn't changed her mind yet. Her friend's appointment was today and she was finished very quickly. Next week there's a half day induction and lessons start on 12th. Youngest is back to school next Tuesday so nearly back into the routine.

starfleet · 30/08/2016 14:29

DS starts 6th Form tomorrow.

He is staying on at the same school for A Levels. They're having some kind of team building day with breakfast and lunch thrown in and they are in 'proper' from Thursday onwards.

His timetable is already up on the school portal although he did speak to school on results day as he wants to change one of his options - Physics to Biology. He thought he'd failed Physics thinking one of the papers hadn't gone particularly well. He got an A.

I think he is quite looking forward to getting back into a routine after so long off and I must admit so am I!

Good Luck to all of your DC's with the next step, be it school/college/work etc.

FantasyAndHope · 30/08/2016 16:04

DDs timetable doesn't go up till next week. I think DD is ready to go back.

needastrongone · 30/08/2016 16:36

Frustratingly, the school are doing maintenance work until September, so no access to timetables etc. That goes for both DC to be fair.

I think they possibly all need some routine now..

Knitting Flowers. I have 2 dogs, can't imagine life without them.

Exit How did your DD cope with the mud at Leeds?

needastrongone · 30/08/2016 16:38

Leeds fest mud...

raspberryrippleicecream · 30/08/2016 16:40

MsMermaid he is indeed off to uni, studying Theoretical physics.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 30/08/2016 17:36

DS doesn't start til the 6th. He's at his dad's at the moment and won't be back til Monday so he's going to be wearing last year's school clothes and shoes and have the single broken pen, broken ruler and a calculator (that'll be broken by October break; it's only functional right now because I bought him a new one for his exams) that he took with him last year. I guess it's starting as he means to go on...

I might clear out the shirts that are ink stained while he's away.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 30/08/2016 17:40

She has trench foot from spending 4 days in her wellies. I have had to put her socks in soak in the sink. She and her mates were lucky enough to get Guest Tickets which meant they were camping in a more exclusive part of the site which stayed grassy so they had some respite from the mud. Seen photos of the general campsites and it looked horrendous.

Someone threw a bin bag full of mud towards the stage one evening and it landed full square on DD's head. She thought she had been attacked and gone blind! She had just taken out her plaits so ended up with a head full of mud.

She is already talking about going again next year but they won't be able to get the special tickets again. Saw photos in the paper of people leaving Reading Fest. Clearly had better weather down south!

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 30/08/2016 17:44

I went to Glastonbury in one of the ludicrously rainy years. I remember wading everywhere in mud and having to be careful because if I moved too fast it would lap over the top of my wellies. Then sitting in the bus home covered in dry mud.

I still went again the next year (but bought tickets last minute after seeing the weather forecast - most people did that year as it had been awful the previous two).

Ah, youth!

Icouldbeknitting · 30/08/2016 17:57

DS has enrolled, it took an hour and a half which was mostly spent queuing (he says). He queued for photos, queued to have his music certificates added to his academic record, queued to sign up to the learning agreement etc etc. He has come away with a piece of homework for each subject, nothing major because I'd guess that three of the four pieces will take under half an hour. We have to go back next week for an audition which is required for all A level music students.

He gets his timetable on the first day, they meet the form tutor and sign up to the VLE on the first morning and start on timetable in the afternoon. I have no idea as to stationery requirements but he can start with a pen and paper and work up from there. The bag is causing much angst, there's nothing wrong with the backpack he had last year but he has it in his head that backpacks identify with GCSE students. His dream bag was not big enough to hold an A4 file but at least I pointed that out before he spent the money on it. I have suggested that he wait until he starts and have a look around. I've been past at chucking out time and I'm pretty sure that there is no one style of acceptable bag (although there was in my day(.

(and in the invisible ink, I do still have a dog. The thumping tail wag he produced on the vet's table was enough of an improvement from yesterday for us to say that there was an improvement. I would be happy with three legs and wagging because I rely on the tail to tell me how he's feeling. Thank you for your support, I am the one that's holding up DH, DS of denial and my mother. I've hopefully got a two day window before irreversible decisions have to be made)

cloudyday99 · 30/08/2016 18:13

Yay! First choice sixth form have just got in touch and confirmed that DS can definitely do double maths Smile (though they've asked me to keep it quiet they don't officially confirm subject changes until the end of next week and don't want others to know I've had any special treatment though it's not really special treatment to be offered the subject you always applied for is it?

Very pleased for him. Have now declined the offers from the independent and the reserve choice college, and don't now have to find £££ or kit him out with smart clothes by Friday. Am visiting parents and openingWine tonight Smile

FantasyAndHope · 30/08/2016 18:26

cloudy
Don't talk about spendy ££££ my pocket feels very very light £650 to be precise who knew uniform could cost so much and the sizing and quality is pretty dire

Icouldbeknitting · 30/08/2016 18:27

I have friends who are festival goers, they are out more or less every weekend from May. Occasionally they will go straight from one to another and not bother coming home in between. He used to go on his own or with mates, his wife went with him once and told him that camping was not her thing. The solution was to buy a camper van, now she gets a shower, personal toilet and comfy bed and everyone is happy. They've stopped having the annual two weeks in the sun because they don't have the time to fit it in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2016 18:27

absolutely brilliant news Cloudyday. Hooray!!

Knitting, that is also good news about your dog. I wish him many many waggy days.

!!! at the mud bag being thrown Exit. that sounds beyond awful. Why do they like this stuff? Yes, much better weather down south.

Step, that sounds like an extremely practical approach to starting college. No point in buying loads of new stuff, just to lose/break it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2016 18:29

That is really expensive F&H Shock]
