Ouch Fantasy - sounds like an expensive week!
Am glad that ds doesn't have to wear a uniform at his new school - just dd now - only another 6 years to go.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/08/2016 14:46

Dd starts on 30th.

I'm surprised anywhere has uniform for sixth form. At her old school it is 'business attire'. At college anything goes.

But how early will she need to get up to do her make up?

FantasyAndHope · 27/08/2016 14:49

shanghai
It is, as a boarder she needs more she brings all her washing home at weekends as she has very sensitive skin plus they don't iron and I want her uniform to be ironed.
Custom charges for lipkits were £30
Shock

MsMermaid · 27/08/2016 15:23

Kitten it will be tough for her. She knows everybody in every class, and speaks to quite a few of them, but they are all acquaintances rather than friends iyswim. She'll cope. She'll see her friends at break, lunch and possibly free periods, but it just would have been easier to have an actual friend in at least one subject.

Dds school have a dress code of "the smarter end of casual", so jeans are OK but joggers aren't. Skirts, shorts and dresses need to be at least as long as the end of your fingertips when standing straight up. We went out to buy school equipment, but she already has a massive stationery hoard so didn't need much. I did make her get properly fitted for bras, much to her dismay but she looks much better wearing bras that fit. And we opened a bank account with internet banking and a debit card, so she is now getting an allowance and is responsible for buying her own clothes etc. So nice not to have to worry about school shoes.

NicknameUsed · 27/08/2016 15:23

MsMermaid DD is the same. She has no-one she knows in 3 out of her 4 subjects.

derektheladyhamster · 27/08/2016 15:31

Luckily ds's uniform is provided and I don't think he's grown out of his sports kit (they are very good at cobbling sports kits together - as am I at school)
We don't have to pay for textbooks which is a relief, but fantasy, I'm Shock they don't iron the uniform!

Ds2 is 13 and wears canvas vans for school Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2016 15:43

oh awesome idea TheSecond! I've never trolled before Grin yay Derek!

dd will possibly know some from some twilight sessions she's done at her college, but that will be it probably I think she's ok with that as many will be in the same boat, her college has a wide catchment area. I know she will miss her school friends though.

Exit, that's so early! Shock will it be a super long term for your dd?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2016 15:44

strategy for morning make up. Put it on the night before and don't go to bed. Sleep upright.

FantasyAndHope · 27/08/2016 15:49

derek
Nope it gets put in there laundry holes and I've always liked dd to have an ironed uniform when she was at home I would iron her uniform every morning or the night before.
Now I iron everything and it goes in a suitcase but uniform in a suitbag I just couldnt bear to think about her being a bag of creases.

FantasyAndHope · 27/08/2016 15:53

and they buy the textbooks so they can highlight and write in them and make notes

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2016 16:00

do they not iron their own clothes at boarding school?

littledrummergirl · 27/08/2016 16:33

Ds1 has to wear a suit! He goes back on the seventh which he is happy about as Dd starts Friday with ds2 the following Monday. It will be good to get back to normal. Smile

needastrongone · 27/08/2016 16:34

We have had to go 'non uniform' shopping for DS, who has little interest in clothes and would wear the same few items he owns without a care. So, we have done a big Primark shop, then a few bits from Jack Wills and Hollister to make him look half decent Smile

No stationary so far.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/08/2016 16:59

Unless he agrees to go shopping before Friday, DS1 will be wearing his prom suit and DH's spare smart shoes (which are half a size too small for him).

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/08/2016 17:01

I mean they're half a size too small for DS1. Obviously they fit DH, whose feet stopped growing a quarter of a century ago.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/08/2016 17:32

It is early isn't it? I think the first few days they are only in for a couple of hours to decide on subjects, find their way around, talk about enrichment etc. don't think teaching starts until the week after. Will give her chance to find out the best mode of transport. probably turn out to be my car

needastrongone · 27/08/2016 17:35

DS is 17 the week that he starts Y12. That means driving lessons....my first born child will be old enough to learn to drive, how did that happen?

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/08/2016 17:40

Same here. More expense.

NicknameUsed · 27/08/2016 17:48

DD has only just had her 16th birthday so we have another 11 months before she can learn to drive. She has also said that she has no interest in doing so.

FantasyAndHope · 27/08/2016 17:56

oh
Yes but I want DD to be pristine she can iron but the skirt is a funny one to Iron
DD will be 18 next month still not driving doesn't want to.

NicknameUsed · 27/08/2016 18:00

DD doesn't care if her clothes are ironed are not, so I don't iron her clothes - easy.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 27/08/2016 18:15

I rarely iron. That's what the Aga is for.

Aren't they all different. Dd cannot wait to be driving.

derektheladyhamster · 27/08/2016 18:23

Luckily, at my school all uniform and skirts, blouses etc, is hung on a rail (getting the girls to collect it is a different matter- its like an extra wardrobe to them!)
Ds's clothes are ironed and rolled so they stay crease free. I'm sometimes embarrassed when he goes back to school with unironed t shirts, but not enough to iron them!

FantasyAndHope · 27/08/2016 18:59

I don't think DD would care but I care. In regards to driving DD is at boarding school so there's no point as she's there barring weekends she wants to learn next year before uni
Very worried about her Turning 18 and alcohol can only hope she'll be sensible

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2016 19:08

scary Need! But it will be handy once he can drive. Driving lessons get booked up far in advance round here, so at some point we are going to have take the plunge and book dd in.

If dd wants ironed clothes she can do it herself. or dh might do it if he's ironing his shirts as he's a softie My feeling is that she's old enough to be responsible for her own appearance.
