Wine for all.

no matter how our kids did, we survived Grin

Mixed results from here. He actually did well, 5 X A, 3x B, 2X C, however, in his school, C isn't conside red good, and he missed getting in by two points. However, he cheered up when he realised he missed three higher grades by 1% each, so we are getting those remarked.

He accepted his second choice school, and seemed happier as the day has gone on.

If he gets upgraded marks, then he may consider returning to his original school. Me and dh have differing views at this. Old school,is super selective grammar, and has a good reptutation, considered one of the best schools locally. New school, still a good grammar, but i heard mixed views. Ie is it living off its reputation. Ironically, the head of new school used to be deputy head of old school.

Sorry for longish post. Just letting off stress.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2016 22:04

Those are really good results 228, but I can imagine today must have been quite a trial. No need to decide on which school yet, I'd wait until the remarks come through and let the dust settle a bit.

marmiteloversunite · 25/08/2016 22:18

Congratulations to all!! Great news. My DD got 2 A* and 9 A's. She was bouncing about like stiffer she was so relieved!!

Don't know if anyone remembers the nightmare we had with music where the CD player broke and they had to change rooms mid exam? Well she got an A* in music which is the subject she wants to do at uni so we are really pleased.

2gorgeous- really sorry to hear about your Dad.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2016 22:20

marmiteloversunite · 25/08/2016 22:20

Thanks kitten. Yes big relief. Going to aim for a relaxing weekend.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/08/2016 22:52

I do remember, marmite! Glad it turned out well in the end. Flowers

HeyBells · 25/08/2016 23:13

Sorry to hear your news 2gorgeous.

I feel like I've been through the ringer, agitated most of the day and still calming down and DS did amazingly without any other worries so I'm impressed by others keeping it together. Managed to speak to DS tonight and he has decided to stay at current school. Just relieved to know what is happening next.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2016 23:46

anyone else struggling to sleep tonight? like Heybells, I can't switch off.

Cathaka15 · 25/08/2016 23:51

Can't switch off either. While DH is snoring awayHmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2016 23:59

HesMyLobster · 26/08/2016 00:10

Just got home from a wonderful evening of celebrations with friends and family. DD is on cloud 9 still.

I agree though, feel buzzing with nervous energy still and don't know how I'm going to sleep.

Just been catching up with the thread, loving all the happy stories, especially the dcs who had extra obstacles to overcome and have still done brilliantly.
Everyone must be so proud.

One more Winethen bed (not looking forward to the alarm in the morning!)

Hello everyone. Sorry I've not had chance to get on here today.

I'm in bed now with the last of the prosecco after a lovely evening of celebration

Dd1 got 1 Astar 8 As and 1 B

Absolutely bloody thrilled with that. Obv

She's in her preferred 6th form and as happy as Larry

Congrats to all our kids, no matter what

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2016 07:06

Good stuff BOOP! Really well done to your dd :)

yay for all of the celebrations!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2016 07:16

At some point we are going to need a new thread for all of the Year 12s as they go into btechs, a levels and apprenticeships too if people like.

Are we going to pop it into the Secondary topic, or are we going to be daring and put it into Further Education?

2gorgeousboys · 26/08/2016 07:32

Struggling with the alarm this morning! Perhaps opening the second bottle of champagne was not the best idea I've had on a Thursday night Blush

DS has decided to have a clear out today and get rid of revision notes and exercise books he won't need any more. Apparently he was too scared he might need to resit to do it before now!

OYBBK I don't think we should keep the new thread in Secondary then it welcomes people with DC at college too...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2016 07:37

excellent :) we will decamp to Further then. It irks me that Further is barely used!
If there was ever a time to open a second bottle of champagne then yesterday was it!

I'm knackered this morning and have a meeting to go to. Just couldn't switch my brain off.

NicknameUsed · 26/08/2016 07:50

Has anyone got any advice about remarking papers?

The only result that DD is disappointed about was English Language where she got a B.

She got an A and A in her mocks, an A for her coursework and has been getting A*s for her classwork, so she is disappointed with her B. Her UMS mark was 230. Is it worth it getting this looked at again?

cloudyday99 · 26/08/2016 07:58

No rest for me just yet, off to sixth form enrolment with DS to find out whether he can do the subjects he wants or needs to turn them down for second choice sixth form. Fingers crossed.

Nickname If you google the exam board and GCSE grades boundaries you can find a document that tells you what mark is required for each grade. If you're close to an upper boundary it could be worth appealing. It's more risky if you've scraped grade as it could end up going down.

Unless it looks like there's been an administrative cock up, like in DS's music where he for Bs and Cs for most papers and apparently an F for composition. I'm fairly sure that the exam board has only marked one of his two compositions. Just hoping it's the exam board's error and not the teacher who's failed to submit one piece. But if you've got one paper with an obvious anomaly like that it's probably worth appealing. I think appeals have to go via the school

situatedknowledge · 26/08/2016 08:16

The morning after, and I cannot belief the sense of calm after so many months of stress. DH helpfully pointed out last night that if all three go to uni we are facing another ten to twelve years of exam results days. Cheers DH.

Still bursting with pride today, but think I will manage not to well up every time I think about how well our two did.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2016 08:41

Nickname, do you have a breakdown for each paper or coursework (if the board did coursework)? it will help you see what happened. Your exams officer should be able to advise if there aren't the individual marks.

baringan · 26/08/2016 08:46

Not sure about dds a levels. New school 6th form have accepted her to do biology history and RS. She only got a B in biology and chemistry. An A with an a* for one paper in history. And bs and Cs in everything else except an A in art. I wonder if she has chosen 3 very academic subjects and will struggle...
