In year Admissions in Kent Grammar Schools

Hi. We are considering moving to Kent from London. DD is currently in year 7 and is quite academic. She is in a good school and doing very well however space has become an issue with 3 kids hence the move.
Has anyone had any success getting into the grammar schools midyear or is it impossible as this would make us reconsider the move to Kent. We were considering Maidstone, Rochester and Tonbridge areas. Also if it's impossible to get into the grammar schools are there other good secondary schools we could consider.

If you're particularly interested in the grammar schools, perhaps this forum will be able to give you advice.

In our (not Kent or grammar county) area post 11+, you have to register each academic year with the grammar school and they invite you in for a test when a vacancy comes up.

I have ds in gs in Tonbridge and Oakwood. There has been in-year admissions for both schools. I presume the girls grammars are the same.

In maidstone, Valley is considered a good non-grammar, but catchment area is small (not sure how that applies to in-year admission). Cornwallis is a Marmite school. St Simon stock, a catholic school, is also considered one of the better schools. Maplesden is okay. Don't know much about st. Augustus.

Can't really advise about non gs in other area, although I know Bennetts in tunbridge Wells is also considered good,

Rochester is Medway, which is a different LEA to Kent. Tonbridge is much more expensive for houses than either of the others. In year places do come up at grammars, you might not have to take test depending on school reports. Neither valley nor Cornwallis are great for very academic children, though they are good enough schools.
