Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls

My dd is in year 7 at a very well performing girls school. She is doing very well academically and has developed a real passion for sport. But socially, there are more than a few concerns I have about how good an environment it is for dd.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how good HMSG is in terms of academic results and sport as well as socially. We have looked at the school and it seems really lovely but I have no idea how it will compare with her current school.

Anyone?

I know the school, it is probably the standout girls' school in the area. It compares very favourably with schools such as Hereford Cathedral or Rougemont. It wouldn't stand up so well compared to Cheltenham Ladies. Sorry, hard to know what to say without knowing what the comparator is.

Cheltenham ladies college is highly selective though isn't it? Dds school is non selective but they do get very good results.

looking at Monmouth Haberdashers and Wycliffe College (Gloucestershire) - would be really grateful if any of you out there have any info on either. Am running out of time :(.

These threads are so old it may put people off reading.

HMSG is an excellent school. Pastorally, they are streets ahead of the competition, the sport is really excellent and academically it is good. A really really bright girl would be better off at Wycombe Abbey or Chelt Ladies, but for a good all-rounder with a love of sport, HMSG is fab.
They really do take the time to integrate the girls properly, they go out of their way to mix them up and prevent cliques forming, and all mobile phones are banned from the moment you arrive in the morning to the moment you leave at night. They have a good boarding department too, although for the younger girl, it can be a bit restrictive. The junior boarding houses are above some of the classrooms, and there is not the freedom to play outside as much as there should be. HTH.
