State secondary place offered, what happens next?

This is my first foray into secondary :)

DS1's place was offered last month by email & since then we haven't heard anything from either the LA or the school. When should we get a letter from the new school with a uniform list or any indication that he will be attending please?

(I know I'm being a bit jumpy but I had a thread that had to be deleted where the LA withdrew places that had been offered to children, so I'm a bit nervous that I should have received something by now, but haven't...)

In due course you will receive a pack from the school giving you important key dates, uniform lists, inviting your dc to induction days etc.

Ragusa the email doesn't say I have to formally accept. It says the school place offered, what to do if I don't intend to take up the place, a clicky link on how allocations were made etc. Nothing that indicates I have anything else to do...shit have I missed out a stage?!

I'm sure it will be fine - don't forget we've had two weeks of Easter holidays in between. Call the school on Monday morning? They can reassure you about a place and let you know what happens next.

If you are happy with the place offered and have accepted the offer then there is nothing more to do at the moment. The school will get around to sending out stuff some time this term but it will be just one of a myriad of big tasks for someone and is unlikely to be their top priority.

When dd went up we had to formally accept, two years later with ds it had changed and you didn't have to.

Mine both had two days at the secondary school in June and received a pack just before then-there was a new parents evening on one of those two days.

Our school did sent a letter via primary school welcoming the Dc but it was the only school in area that did ( dd was quite smug by that as she was the only one in her class going to that school )

Your primary school will know the drill you could always ask there

I panicked a bit last year when DD started primary, for similar reasons.

They sent out the welcome pack etc just in time for the May half term, and moving up day here (so visits day too) was at the start of July.

DS2's school sent out a letter on offer day asking if we wanted the place. They have a long waiting list though.

In the London pan area admissons you have to accept the place offered, even if it is your first choice. There was a link on the eAdmissons site but the deadline was a few weeks ago so don't know if the button/link disappears after that date. We then got a confirmation email that we had accepted the place. This process was also laid out clearly in our LA booklet. For good measure we also got a letter from the school asking us to write and confirm and take a copy of the birth certificate and with dates for induction day and parents evening.
