GCSE mess - is this even possible?

Long story short. Ds is undertaking a controlled assessment for GCSE which accounts for 60% of the marks. It now appears that there has been an 'error' in that the teacher downloaded last years assessment rather than this years so has been apparently teaching all the wrong work. I don't understand how this can happen - does anyone know if this is possible to do?

Yes it's possible. The exam board will advise the school on what to do next.

Yep, possible. Very shoddy. The exams officer at the school will be ripping their hair out. (Really, the EO should have downloaded it themselves, not the teacher.)

My department always get two people to download separately & a third to check!

If you go on many of the exam boards websites you'll see the CA titles for current two years (10 & 11) with 'next' year (year 9) being hidden behind a secure log in.

Lots of schools do all CA in year 10 so it's quite easy if your brain is fried to look at the two visible sets & think 'ah yes, current y10 & next year 10'...

Obviously you'd have to be a bit of a muppet not to then double check.

IT and it was the EO that's caused the problem

The exam board will put a contingency in place to make sure that the pupils aren't significantly disadvantaged by a mistake which wasn't their fault. It may mean that the moderation process is slightly delayed e.g. because the work needs to be sent to another moderator.
The exam board will probably be writing a letter to the school warning them to make sure they check this more carefully in future.
