Moving for sixth form - advice on schools in London / north west London

We are thinking of moving our dd whose in yr 10 now for sixth form to a school in the Independent/ private sector . Please can you talk to me about schools, their "flavours", academic reputation ( or otherwise ) and general facilities ?

Why do you want to move? What are her a levels/career plans likely to be?

We just looked at some, though also were trying grammar schools.

Top tier that I know of is roughly, NLCS, SHHS, Highgate, Channing, in that order - open to correction, just my impression.

For grammar, HBS, DAO in Potters Bar, St Michaels, even if you aren't Catholic at sixth form, depending on where you live you could apply for Latymer .

Heard St. Helens is nice, also CLGS and others but maybe further away.

At sixth form the subject is important, so even if she seems not to have high enough marks, its still worth applying to any of these because you don't know what gaps they will have in particular courses.

Do you want single sex or mixed? If she likes "boy" subjects, girls might be better imho.

If it helps, there is Queenswood in Brookmans Park near Potters Bar which has weekly boarding and lots on offer if your DD wants to take advantage. Not cheap but girls get to good universities.

UCS takes girls in 6th form

I've heard Habs girls is good and have visited twice at different stages but not wrt sixth form. It has good facilities, a coach service and is academic, and the fees aren't as high as some. I forgot to put it on my list above.

UCS which will be more boys but has a separate house for the girls I think? is interesting too, I liked the idea a l lot but decided not right for us.
