Dream sorry, I don't know where the 2 came from in A2 - DD is doing GCSE History A
(edexcel do 2 history GCSE courses - A and B)
she isn't doing an additional A level! Now that really would be stressful!

The units she is doing are International Relations, The Cold War, and British Society. (Just had a sneaky peak at her 'History wall' in her bedroom! Wink)

Got lost somewhere on the last thread - catching up with this one. What is Tassomai and do i need to know about it?
DS working solidly (i hope). Seems to be anyway. Focussing mainly on Maths and triple science (paper 2). Starting to add in other subjects now. Whiteboards are our friends. Am getting very good at deciphering maths mark schemes, struggling with the science ones!
Re Prom, we're getting him fitted for a tux in Whitsun week. Good price (so much cheaper than the girls seem to be spending on dresses!).

Headphones - so both, depending on who you speak to.

Get revising planner crashed :(

Tassomai is a multi-choice on line revision plan for sciences. It seems to be working (at least DS thinks so) I like it because it's a bit more fun, less writing and provides a change. And he can revise in the car mwah ha ha Grin

Maladicta · 31/03/2016 16:47

Another thanks for the Tassomai mention - dd loves it and is doing at least an hour a day. She needs it!

TheSecondOfHerName · 31/03/2016 17:30

I'm also very glad we found out about Tassomai (thanks to the prequel of this thread). DS1 was finding iGCSE Chemistry difficult and Tassomai has helped more than the flashcards, mind-maps and past papers he had tried previously.

JWIM · 31/03/2016 17:33

Another signed up DS for Tassomai. He likes it ans is following up areas he is doing less well in by reading his subject text books. Thanks for the tip. Just pondering whether to add in Maths.

I do my work with music /TV on and do ok, I'm used to multi tasking majorly and focussing on one thing is too distracting Hmm

Dd1 is doing history of medicine/American west in History.

228agreenend · 31/03/2016 20:11

We were told by one of ds2's year 9 teachers that you shouldn't do all your revision to music, as you can't listen to music during the exam.

Ds 1 likes Tassomai, but hasn't got into the habit of revising what he perceives as his weaker areas. He's doing all three sciences on it.

Derek - what English website are you referring to, and what exam board is your ds doing?

DS just pressed "send" on his Army application. Eek.

If a person say, age 25yo, wants to go to university after all, but only has GCSEs. What is the procedure to get to Uni?
I thought I read someone age 18+ could apply to a "further education college". But the nearest FEC does not admit anyone > 18 yrs. So just how does one reliably find a way to study A-levels at age 18+?

flatmouse · 31/03/2016 20:47

Re tassomai is it linked to a particular exam board or can you select exam board? Thx

Ok just googled. £51 seems a lot (that was for ocr gateway triple 1-6 all 3). Sounds like you guys feel it'd be worth it? Does it help with learning how to answer the questions (eg the 6 point biology ones)?

flatmouse · 31/03/2016 20:53

Thanks dream and others.

Thanks Dreamgirls. I also just found out about something called Access diplomas, which are targeted at older Uni aspirants. There's only a very narrow selection of Access courses in my area, but lots of choice in other parts of the country. I'm just relieved there is a path should DS change his mind later.

Not sure DS will even get interview with Army! Oh well, it's said military are not fussy...

trout access courses or NVQ 3/4 or some colleges do A levels. There are plenty of options to do uni later (I'm currently atUni!)

Trout - exciting! If he wants to go to uni after there may be a path with the army.
Really good luck to him :)

is anyone else finding this holiday is flying by? It needs to sloooooow down!

Dreamgirls- sandhurst is officer training not infantry soldier. They choose their regiment towards the end of the training. If it's like veterinary they fund the last three years by paying an amount each year and then a large lump sum on graduation. Ds1 has been considering this but not sure he wants any time in the forces. I think it's a great idea as means much less debt. He has to do what's right for him though.
