Thanks everyone. He's showered this morning and is talking about revision so definitely over the worst. Grin
Mrsguy that made me laugh.

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/05/2016 11:59

I slammed a glass door on my db in the middle of his a levels. Severed the artery in his wrist. He had to dictate his history exam to a scribe.

raspberryrippleicecream · 01/05/2016 13:57

DD scalded her writing arm last week. It's OK, but needs a dressing and bandage. Hoping it mends well!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2016 16:14

ouch raspberry! and even more ouch exit! I bet that was traumatic for all concerned!

We did get out to a food festival. Yum! The over anxious recovering emetophobe in me though was wincing at dd merrily trying many many different foods in case someone had got germs on their fingers and contaminated the samples. I think she must have tried about 30 pieces of cheese! I was wincing even more when ice from a bucket containing cava bottles went in our drinks. I am proud to say that I bit my tongue though and even ate samples myself.

DD has turned down a shopping trip to a horsey shop tomorrow Confused

OYBBK - you should have seen my expression when faced with all the street food at Spitalfields.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2016 16:28

glad it isn't just me! I love the idea, just like my food to come without fear!

Exit - maybe your dd is sickening for something! Shock

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/05/2016 16:38

Hell I hope not!

She will school the horse in the morning and then revise in the afternoon. I was hoping for a late morning trip to a horsey emporium. I haven't bought anything horsey for ages (having not got my own anymore) but she says she hasn't got the time. I am a bit fed up of being stuck in to be honest.

Street food always look great, but then I think about all the people who have walked past it. And when people buy it they go and sit on the pavement, in the gutter, to eat it. The gutter where .............. I can't bear to think about it.

DS1 went for a run yesterday and then covered up the labels on Biology diagrams and practised labelling them. He said he was planning to revise the structure of the heart and the circulatory system today. What he actually did was go to church and then spent the afternoon faffing about on the computer. If the school are giving out a prize for proficiency in Sims 4, then he will definitely make the short-list.

Icouldbeknitting · 01/05/2016 18:19

I'll come back and catch up later. My feet are killing me but I have a shortage of tea so I will have to summon up the energy to (gasp) walk into the kitchen to make one. On the plus side I did get DS out for a breath of fresh air and some brisk walking, it didn't look that far on the map but I clearly have issues with scale.

Bluelilies · 02/05/2016 09:01

DSD has her first exam tomorrow. She's supposed to be going back to her mum's tonight and staying there til Friday. But she's said can she come here in the day before the exam (it's an afternoon exam). She says she wants to because we're nearer school, and she finds it easier to revise here Hmm but DH and I will both be out at work and I'm worried that she'll decide she's ill or something and there'd be no one here to support or coerce her back to school if needed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2016 09:06

That is difficult bluelilies - have you told her your fears as to what might happen if you say yes? Can you drop her off at school in the morning and make sure school know to keep an eye on her whereabouts?

First exam tomorrow too. I've decided to do a proper cooked breakfast each exam morning, in case she hasn't the appetite for lunch.

OP posts:
Bluelilies · 02/05/2016 09:22

No, I've not shared my concerns with DSD. She asked during dinner yesterday and DH just instinctively said yes because her likes his kids to feel they can come here wherever they want. And neither of us would normally have a problem with one of them being here for a bit when we're out if it makes their lives easier (we are much nearer school). It's just that DSD has a track record of being "ill" when she doesn't want to go to school and also walked out of one of her mock exams because it was hard she felt unwell. I think her DM would have little time for this kind of thing and would probably make sure she got to school somehow or other. I have just discussed it with DH and suggested he checks his ex's views out. Putting my concerns to DSD isn't a bad idea though, as can be stubborn and would want to prove me wrong.

I can't really drop her off at school without taking a day off work. I'm planning to work from home a bit over the exams but tomorrow wasn't a day I'd planned to do that because she's supposed to be staying at her mum's this week, and I have meetings at work I can't really miss.

Like the idea of a cooked breakfast before exams. Had thought I might do similarly.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2016 10:01

Can her DM come over and frog march her to school?

I think that putting concerns to a teen is a really good way of making them prove you wrong :D

I may be looking for some breakfast suggestions soon! Everything needs to be quick cook.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 02/05/2016 10:13

Put the onus on your DH since he agreed.
His responsibility to ensure she gets to school.
He can speak to her about his concerns, if he has any.
If the school rings to ask where she is, make sure it is him they call, or the DM.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 02/05/2016 10:16

Eggs beans, toast, bacon tomatoes take about 5 mins max.
I always do this on exam days - the smell of bacon gets them out of bed better than any alarm...

Bluelilies · 02/05/2016 10:16

Would depend how much notice she had kitten. If DSD was trying to wriggle out of an exam I'd imagine she'd make sure her DM did not have enough notice to do that.

Have just raised the issue with DSD and suggested that asking her DM for a lift to school (rather than getting the bus) would ensure there was always someone available if she has any problems. DSD is not keen on this idea because apparently she needs to spend the morning wondering round town and buying glucose sweets. DH has said he'll go and buy her some this morning so hopefully we're knocking that one on the head. I'm also hoping that she's now going to be wanting to show me that she's capable to getting to school herself so should do so.

She was also saying this morning that her hand is still bruised and sore from when she fell on the school trip so she's going to ask the teacher for extra time in the exam. I've told her that this would more likely entail a doctor's note and a scribe and she can't just rock up on the day and say she's a sore hand and be given extra time Hmm There's nothing visibly wrong with the hand and she managed two mock exams last week so think this is not going to go anywhere.

On a cherrier note a parcel arrived for her just now which is a tutu! She's planning on wearing it to the Y11 dinner because she doesn't want to wear the styles the other girls are wearing Grin

I'm liking the idea of a cooked breakfast. Dd doesn't need to be in school until 1 pm but I might encourage her to go in for lunch because she says the school food is good and I need to leave the house at 10. Dh will be home but working.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2016 12:52

nice try on her bruised hand bluelilies Grin

like the idea of toasties - if I can get the toastie machine to heat up quickly enough!

Eek - I can't believe some of your DCs start tomorrow! It is has come round so soon. Although I seem to be suffering from some sort of seasonal delusion. I was feeling sorry for some DofE practice expedition kids yesterday as they struggled up a hillside in the wind and rain. I commented to DD that it was a pretty stupid time of year to be doing the practice walks, you know, with it being Autumn. She looked at me like this Confused Hmm and pointed out it was May 1st.

DD also presented me with a note from school which had been lurking in her bag since March, saying that they can finish on May 13th and just attend school for exams.

Good luck to all those with exams tomorrow.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 02/05/2016 13:06

I have some days booked in for invigilation ( not at DCs school, obviously!) at a nearby school, so will be interesting - haven't checked yet if any of them co-incide with the ones he is taking.
DS foes on 'study leave' from 6th.
Feel a bit guilty because when my elder DC did his I was so caught up in training I was doing myself I barely registered what he was up to...

littledrummergirl · 02/05/2016 13:12

I hope tomorrow goes well for everyone.

raspberryrippleicecream · 02/05/2016 13:15

Cooked breakfast here on Exam days too. Usually eggs, eggy bread and beans a favourite.

Vegetarian DD usually has yogurt. Fruit. Nuts, seeds anyway and doesnt like eggs particularly

ShanghaiDiva · 02/05/2016 13:37

Good luck to everyone with exams tomorrow.
DS has CIE Geography paper one and English language is also tomorrow for year 10s at his school.
