In 1979 when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the internet didn't exist I did Macbeth (I am not a thespian - I don't care) and To Kill a Mockingbird which are both on my son's syllabus. I did at least two other books and numerous WW1 poets, I'm sure we were expected to do more actual reading than he has done.

Dd has done macbeth, an inspector calls, animal farm, ww1 poets, of mice and men

WankyDailyCuntMail · 29/04/2016 22:04

The whole school goes to our prize giving. There's shed loads of prizes so most girls end up winning something

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 08:56

Dd read Animal Farm of her own volition. (Well a boyfriend recommended it).

that makes about 5 books she has read outside school

raspberryrippleicecream · 30/04/2016 10:23

DD is a reader. She looked at the a level list and the majority she has either read or are on her to read list already. She also loves picking the text apart. Shes even looking forward to A level French and studying French literature!

The GCSE photography is still not over as she is apparently finishing her book in lesson time. And we have Drama looming too now. Two years ago I thought it would be brilliant to have 2 exams done and dusted beforehand, but they are causing more stress than the rest put together!

We have headteachers commendations twice a year here. All kept in school. They are presented with GCSE certificates in a presentation. Evening in the Cathedral next December, as are the A level certificates. At those they present an academic achievement award and a most progress award for each class. DS1 won the academic one, but they missed reading his class out

derektheladyhamster · 30/04/2016 13:56

DS has never won a prize at prizegiving (1 per subject). He did win a cookbook for some reason though - at a random time during the year.

Had an email from the medical centre this morning, he's laid up with another migraine today. Apparently if he has a migraine on an exam day, they look at his past exams - I hope to god he doesn't get a migraine on an exam day!

Does anyone know anything about letters of consideration? The nurses at the school I work at say they would write one for one of our kids if they'd missed as much school this year as DS had.

Why has dreamgirls123 had her posts removed?

My DD just asked me to turn the wifi off on her devices so she can revise without distraction

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2016 15:07

that is a bit of a worry Derek. Have you spoken to the exams officer about your ds. Poor lad.

BitOutOfPractice - good for your dd, perhaps her friends keep trying to talk to her!

I don't know about Dreams, I hope she is ok.

Suggested to dd that we all go out for a walk and a pub lunch on Monday so she can clear her head before the first exam. That suggestion didn't go down very well - apparaently she will need to revise all day. Pondering what to do tomorrow instead.

Maybe Dreams has been outed in RL. Her posts were pretty identifying.

I've just received my DS2's extra English and maths mock results. He got one mark off an A* for maths, and a high C on his English paper. He's doing foundation for English so with his B in the controlled assessment he can theoretically get a B overall if he aces his foundation paper! TBF he only needs a C to get on to his college course, so I really hope he can repeat this performance in the real thing. He's still only doing an hour or so a day revision, but at least he's staying on track.

The pressure some of your DC put themselves under! I hope they get the results they all need. Flowers

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 21:09

I too as going to suggest an outing on Monday but will probably get short shrift.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/04/2016 21:20

My DD doesn't want to go anywhere or do anything. She's still working on some assessment pieces for Tuesday

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2016 21:38

We have compromised on an outing tomorrow instead. Just for the afternoon. Its really hard to encourage them to have a balance without just adding to the stress by dragging them away.

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 21:41

Dd rides every day so at least that's a break.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2016 21:43

That must be about as a healthy an escape as possible!

Bluelilies · 30/04/2016 21:49

You lot all seem to have very diligent children. DS is doing a fair bit of revision but still in a pretty laid back way. DSD has done none at all today and seems to have no plans for any the rest of the weekend Hmm We're certainly not having any difficulties getting either of them to take a break.

What's happened to your posts dream? Would it be easier to drift in and out under different user names?

littledrummergirl · 30/04/2016 22:01

Ds1 missed most of school last week, spent Thursday night in hospital and has done no revision all week.
The meds seem to be working though, he is on the mend and feels he may be able to concentrate tomorrow. Hopefully will be back in school next week.
I had to reassure him that because he is very well prepared its not going to cause him to much of an issue. Much talking up of his long term revision plan.
It's not the best time to have been ill... Confused

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 22:09

Poor your ds.

I am quietly impressed with dd's diligence.

She has ordered some revision books, and has a Latin wall in her bedroom.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2016 22:26

I'm so glad he is on the mend littledrummergirl - I hope he continues to get there. It is rotten timing.

WankyDailyCuntMail · 30/04/2016 22:40

My dd rides everday too. Although her horse is a bit of a nightmare atm so more stress!

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 22:45

We have a self harming tb who can't keep a shoe on. Every day is a joy.

WankyDailyCuntMail · 01/05/2016 06:44

Ha ha I am seriously considering bubble wrap for ours

derektheladyhamster · 01/05/2016 08:21

LDG sorry to hear about your DS, I hope he's feeling better now. Because DS is at boarding school I have no idea how much revision is being done. But the advantage lies with all his mates revising, a nice bit of peer pressure. He's doing a few tassomai tests most nights,

We would normally take him out on a Sunday afternoon, but he needs to study. English exam Tuesday & Friday and Spanish oral on Thursday. Then he's home for the weekend (can't wait!)

raspberryrippleicecream · 01/05/2016 09:14

Hope DS is doing OK, littledrummergirl. And your DS stays OK Derek.

No chance of getting DD out for the day, but have managed to include a couple of small time outs.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 01/05/2016 10:12

Grin
Yesterday we were putting up a black-out blind in DS's room.
It was slightly too long, so needed to be cut.
DS said 'okay I'll get the hacksaw'
Nooooooo!!!!
He was quite put out when I said DH could do it Grin as the last thing we need is an injury.
DS said, 'But it would only be my left hand that got cut if it slipped'....Hmm
Only a few more weeks to go....
