Difference between Predicted grades and Minimum Target grade

DD1 is in Y10, and I have just received her spring report. What is the difference between Predicted Grade and Minimum target Grade? If Predicted Grade is an A and Minimum target grade is B, does it means that she is "underperforming"?
She hasn't seen the report as yet, but the subject that her Minimum target is lower than her predicted target is one of her favourites. However, she had problems with the teacher in previous years as she doesn't believe she grades her work properly. I just want to be prepared when she sees the report tonight.

As I understand it and how our school has it on the reports, is that the Minimum target grade is what is expected as the minimum grade the top 25% of students will achieve across the country. So the minimum grade isn't anything to do with your DD's grade - it's just a guideline.

The predicted grade is the school's assessment of what your DD is expected to reach - based on ongoing assessment in school. So if your DD is predicted an A then she is performing better than average.

I don't know if that explains very well.

Does it not include a Current Grade? I've just looked at DD's last report and it has:

Target Level (as minimum target level on your report)
Predicted Level
Current Level

The current level is the one that will change over the terms/years so you can see if she is improving.

I have a different view.

I think Predicted is what the school think she is likely to get.

Minimum target would be an automated target based on incoming SATs from y6.

So DD had a' Target' grade of C for maths based on going up with a L4, and a 'Predicted' of B because that's what they thought she was going to get. The targets don't change, but during y10 & y11 the predicteds might.

Based on that, I would say she is over performing, not underperforming.

Perhaps you need to clarify with the school.

No, it doesn't include a current grade, which I think it would be very helpful... may be too helpful, as then we would know and if underperforming we could go and ask the teacher.
If it is as you wise MN, she is doing well, and not the other way round. I might have to advise her to ask her HoY as she wants to do this subject for A level and it might be very important for Universisty. I wouldn't mind asking the school, but DD1 is very independent young lady, so she probably would like to do it herself.

Am a teacher. This is as other PPs have said: predicted- what teacher thinks your dd will get. Minimum target- her target based on ks2 sats.

If you're concerned and want more info then contact school and ask for her current grade.

The thing with 'current grade' is you will have to understand what that means too.

• What they would get if they took the full GCSE tomorrow. But this will be low as they won't have done most of the content yet.

or

• What they would get if they took a GCSE only on what has so far been studied. But some subjects expect 'question answering technique' to improve massively during the course.

So either way, knowing 'current' is a D doesn't tell you much. (in my opinion)

Thank you very much for all the replies. DD hasn't seen the report yet, as we couldn't access it yesterday night, so she doesn't know her grades (target / minimum) yet, therefore, no questions from her yet... this will be tonight.
If it is as most of you said, predicted what the teacher thinks she will get, she will be happy.. ( well I thinks DD expects to get a A*), but at least she will know that her teacher thinks she can achieved very well.

Agree with T&T about current grades. However, seems a bit odd that at this point in year 10 she doesn't know her target grades. Good luck to your DD.
