Here we are everyone.

English here. Am hoping and praying that he's done enough. He's been up since 5... Unheard of. Not the best timing as I'm off sick for the next 3 weeks so really could do with a lie in, but hey no complaints from me. He's off to Scotland straight after the exam with the gf and her family for her grandads 90th birthday. They reckon they'll revise psychology on the journey home.

Good luck everyone today.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 09:17

Hope you're OK AuntP?

DD was very tearful and saying she didn't want to do it in the car, but she got out, so fingers crossed. Halfway through after today.

Auntpetunia2015 · 20/05/2016 09:28

Oh btm thanks for asking it's all just gotten too much for me. I've had a chest infection for 2 weeks and it wiped me out and then I broke down in the Drs on Monday and couldn't stop crying...not like me at all, as you know. So signed off till after half term with sleeping pills and instructions to make new memories!! Not the best timing with the exams but hey ... I just hope he passes what he needs.

LittlehumHams · 20/05/2016 10:11

Hope you get better soon. Flowers It is tricky to plan nice trips when they have to revise.

I thought that some of you might be reassured by this article on the OCR maths C1 exam.

www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/students-left-level-maths-exam-11358536

IrianofWay · 20/05/2016 10:36

AQA maths c1 was 'average' apparently. Geography was OK. Nothing too bad nothing really good either.

DD sat me down a few weeks ago and told me that I must accept that she is probably only going to get Ds for her AS levels. She has found the courses far far harder than GCSEs and than she was expecting. I think the neutral tone about the papers so far is to manage our expectations Grin But the only thing that is going to upset me is if SHE is upset. It's her exams and her future - she knows we are and always will be behind her.

So even keel so far....

Auntpetunia2015 · 20/05/2016 10:51

Well apparently he "smashed" English thought it was a brilliant paper....oh god!!! And wrote loads ...poor scribe!

Anyway he's off to Scotland now.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 10:57

Oh AuntP, poor youFlowers Great to hear your DS is so positive - I haven't heard from DD yet, so I am crossing everything. She was worrying about 15 Rosetti poems - did he do that paper?

Irian, how good your DD is calm. And how mature, trying to manage your expectations!

Auntpetunia2015 · 20/05/2016 11:06

btm he said that's the next paper the open book one. This was 2 questions ...I hope. Only advantage of a scribe is they make sure he's answered everything he should so turned all the pages. I'm not thinking about it now it's done just hope his confidence is rewarded.

HSMMaCM · 20/05/2016 11:27

DD told us last night that although there is a lot to revise for her next three exams, they are basically just waffle, so she should be ok ConfusedHmm

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 12:05

AuntP, it must be a different board - hers was definitely not open book (I'm not sure they even do open bookConfused)
She said it was OK (after tears in the car and worse at school) and she is halfway through now!

DD told me you can't just waffle now - there have to be factsGrin This is what was causing her worry!

HSMMaCM · 20/05/2016 12:21

Btm I'm sure your DD is right and I'm really hoping DD is going to waffle in an intelligent way Grin.

So far she has been in a better mood for AS levels than she was for GCSEs.

OP posts:
LineyReborn · 20/05/2016 12:32

I think there were a ridiculous number of GCSE exams. I remember moaning on last year about my DS having about 22? (12 GCSEs and an AS sat early.)

This year he has 'only' 7.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 12:58

I was just thinking the same Liney - I think DD did at least 23 in Y11 (plus the 5 in Y10) and she "only" has 8 this year!

Auntpetunia2015 · 20/05/2016 12:59

btm he was doing AQA English lit B option BB if that's any help. All his friends are saying the same only 2 questions and a good paper ...fingers crossed

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 14:16

AuntP, the school website says hers is OCR, but it sounds like many of the texts are the same!

IrianofWay · 20/05/2016 14:56

Geography Skills this afternoon. That sounds like being able to read a compass and a map! But apparently not....

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 19:00

DD says the exam was OK but only because it was on an area they had covered well. Her poor HOY and English teachers had their work cut-out before-hand thoughGrin

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/05/2016 20:24

Good news from today ... Geog skills went well and answered all the questions.
Maybe not so good she still has her art sketch book and apparently OK to keep for the weekend and hand in on Monday. Rather a mixed blessing there I think?! Was hoping to see the back of it
Ah well.

Family occasion (funeral of Aunt) went well - nice to see people

Weekend.
A glass of Wine and pizza for supper I think.
I'm exhausted, and so is DD Smile
Week one over. Getting there?

GetAHaircutCarl · 20/05/2016 21:24

An English exam here.

Two essays. One a 'stormer' one a 'shit show'. By lady luck the former outweighs the later in the mark scheme!!!

I'm beginning to be very bored by all this. I don't even have DH around for distraction as he's away with work.

HSMMaCM · 20/05/2016 22:18

DD had her dress rehearsal today for their group drama assessment on Wednesday and one member of their group didn't come to the rehearsal and says she's not sure if she's coming on Wednesday !!!!

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 21/05/2016 07:42

Oh no, HSMShock What happens in those circumstances?
That is precisely why DD gave up GCSE Drama in Y10 - because she was getting so stressed by performances and didn't want to mess the others around

DD is sleeping over at her friends, then they are off to the library first thing - she is likely to be in a state for every exam this week as she was focusing on the first week...

Abraid2 · 21/05/2016 07:46

Thank you,Littlehuns, for that article!

HSMMaCM · 21/05/2016 07:55

Btm I hate the group stuff in drama. The drama teacher is well aware. We have had three members of the group here overnight and I have been giving them the pep talk about how people must fall ill on the day, that they can rise above it, that the drama teacher will sort it out somehow, blah blah blah, but it's obviously not helping their stress and I am just really cross with the girl who has let them down (for apparently no good reason).

When she did GCSE drama there was someone who rarely turned up for rehearsals and I hoped that would put her off the A level.

OP posts:
Abraid2 · 21/05/2016 08:00

we used to say that more drama happens offstage than on, HSM. It is so stressful sometimes--I think it's the lack of control over what happens in the group. My daughter had a rather volatile groud group for GCSE but then a rather good collection of personalities for AS. Luck of the draw, I think, plus some of the more tricksy people just growing up.

Drama is a hard subject and a lot of work.

GetAHaircutCarl · 21/05/2016 08:08

Sounds like DD has also struck lucky with her drama class.

Small and very tight knit group who hang out together a lot, going to the theatre and cinema etc. they all take it very seriously ( to a pint that sometimes makes me smile - secretly).
