Derby Secondary

Schools. Moving to Derby in the summer and looking for a school. Any one have any advice on which schools we should look at?

Whereabouts will you be working? Ecclesbourne in Duffield tops the league tables easily although the site is very crowded. Overall the city school results aren't brilliant. Woodlands in Allestree, Chellaston and Littleover are well thought of.

Where are you moving to? Are you looking at state schools or private?

Eccleabourne all the way.

We haven't decided where in Derby to move. So was wanting advice about schools before we do decide. It's so difficult when you don't know the area to judge which school will be ok. I will have a look at Eccelsbourne school,thank you for the recommendation. Also will look at Littleover schools and Mickleover ones as well.

Be careful of catchment areas in Littleover and Mickleover. Parts that you might assume are in catchment for Littleover aren't.

Yes agree with marialuisa. Ecclesbourne widely regarded as the best but ideally you need to live in the village (tho some of Derby city is in catchment).

Otherwise yy to Littleover, Chellaston, Woodlands. I personally would avoid Mickleover as it is not well served for secondaries - unless you are able to go for John Port in Etwall, but that is a very big school (2000+)

Yes watch out in Littleover, lots of Littleover is in Derby Moor area which would not be my personal top choice.

clary is right in that the catchment areas in Derby are cut up quite odd. The latest map of it on the council's website isn't that helpful either (it doesn't include street names clearly anymore) but you can see the link for catchment on the right hand here - you need to click the education section once the map uploads. The Littleover school catchment is the dark purple mostly on the left hand side with Mickleover school catchment being the reddish area just above it. It's really odd - You can along one road end up in 4 different schools with a very wide difference attainment and access to courses. Thankfully most of them no have updated websites with course lists and such on them that makes it easier to see what's going on where.

You can also look through the Guide for Derby [[https://www.schoolguide.co.uk/secondary-schools/Derby]] and can search at the top for Derbyshire or just ask for 20 more schools to get places like Ecclesbourne. It's mainly stats based but it has a clearer map of the area even without catchment lines.

I have DNs at Chellaston who are doing very well and their parents are very happy with the school. Don't know about any other schools as I am not local.

I would say Ecclesbourne first followed by Woodlands or Chellaston. If you want to be guaranteed Ecclesbourne you'll really need to live in the village of Duffield where house prices are of course very high.
Woodlands is in Allestree which is a little cheaper although still a popular area as is Chellaston. There is alot of new development in Chellaston so again look carefully at catchment.
