1st March offer day - anyone else nervous?

I am really sure we will get one of our six. But I just don't know which one. And I am now really worried I put them down in the wrong order. Our first choice had a stabbing incident after applications closed.

You are very welcome harry but really hope that you don't need it!

I'm so nervous my Dd won't get our first or second choice, they are the only two schools I am really prepared to send her. This thread has been very useful as I was going to decline any other offer made to us and thought that would take us to the top of the waiting list. Good luck to everyone.

User1456etc are you aware of what your chances are with first and second choice? Not wanting to worry you but I hear lots of this and it inevitably leads to a huge disappointment if schools are put down knowing the chance isn't realistic and no good backup. Going onto a waiting list for the schools doesn't necessarily give you a better chance either if lots of others who are higher up the oversubscription criteria list also do the same. I hope it all works out for you.

We are in catchment for both schools, although our first choice is always oversubscribed and the catchment seems to change each year.

Still stressing, can't believe that I have to wait another 55 hours and 15 minutes to find out!

Worse still, I am usually en route to pick up the kids at 5pm so I may have to pull over the car and log on to eadmissions.

Maybe I should wait until I get home with the children and DH is there for moral support? I am over thinking this!!

DS is twitchy- we are baring the brunt of it all.

We've applied to schools we aren't on catchment for- only 3 choices in our LA. Just hoping to get one of them as none of us liked the catchment school.

I haven't reminded DS it's this week.... I suppose his school friends might. My well meaning but tactless friend is coming round tomorrow. I might postpone Wink

When are people who made late offers (after the deadline) given a place? Does anyone know?

Report
PettsWoodParadise · 28/02/2016 21:34

BabyG what do you mean by made late offers? Do you mean made late applications (as in ones made after the deadline) or do you mean second round offers? Either way it often depends on the procedure set by the local authority. They will have a timetable outlined in their admissions brochure about how and when they deal with late applications. In Bromley for example they deal with late applications after the 'reconciliation' date when second round offers are made. Late applications without extenuating circumstances are dealt with after that date.

BabyGanoush · 28/02/2016 21:42

Yes, late applications I mean.

A scatterbrained friend of mine is having a panic and asked me as DH is a teacher, but DH has no clue about application process Grin

But mumsnet know everything Wink

It's in Hampshire, good local comps but all oversubscribed, so she has no idea if she might be able to get in, or appeal.

No extenuating circumstances other than thinking they were going to go private but changed their mind.

I happened to look at Hants site earlier today.
Applications made late but before 1st March are considered on 15th March.

SelfRaisingFlour · 28/02/2016 22:29

BabyGanoush - I don't see how your friend could appeal. She didn't put in an application until after the deadline for no good reason. The LA will state clearly how it deals with late applications. She'll just have to go on waiting lists if she doesn't get the school she wants.

BabyGanoush · 28/02/2016 22:41

Ok, thanks. she is so silly to get into this situation, but I still like to help if I can.

Am also eagerly (worriedly?!) awaiting our school for DS2...

Good luck to everyone!
We find out at midnight tonight which is why I'm awake at 530. Im really anxious about it.
We're hoping for a grammar school place, my daughters result was in the "based on the last 4 years should eventually be offered a place" section, last year about 8 marks under hers got offered on allocation day and I've read that the raw mean results were lower overall this year so it all looks positive but who knows.

SelfRaisingFlour · 29/02/2016 07:15

We're also hoping for a grammar school place. We don't know any scores (our preferred three schools (Sutton) never tell anyone who passes the exam), but we think the odds are quite good. Other boys passed all or some of the exams and they can only have one school place each.

Hi all,

I’m a broadcast journalist with BBC Radio 4.

We are looking at setting up an item for our programme tomorrow morning on the subject of national offer day.

We want to talk to people who have found out overnight whether they have got a place for their child at their first choice – whether the news is good or bad. The idea would be to talk about how you feel about the decision and what you will do next!

If there’s any way you could contact me via private message to discuss this further, we would be delighted to talk!

Thanks so much and hopefully talk soon.

Surely the admissions code does not allow this. Late applicants are allocated places after everyone else has been dealt with in the normal admissions round. Unless a very recent application I would expect a late applicant to receive an offer on offers day obviously taking into account that their preferences will have been considered after all on time applicants and for this reason may be a school that they didn't state a preference for.

It would be unfair to penalise late applicants by not considering them before a 'second round of offers' and as Tiggytape states they should be considered for waiting lists in the same way as anyone else.

Would you mind starting your own thread over here please to avoid interrupting the conversation?

Many thanks

I emailed the admissions dept here and asked about the second round thing. They replied to say if we didn't get the school we wanted we 'would have a chance to ask in writing'. So not sure if they do the second round thing here.

Good luck to everyone. Mine are both securely in first choice school but I remember the stress. 2 years ago my friend was in hospital after having breast removed and got the news of rejection through email. Terrible time but she got DS in on appeal. Unfortunately she died this September but her son is in the school she wanted - still makes me cry at times.

We are also waiting for a grammar school place. Where we are each school has its own entrance exam. Dd passed all the exams she sat and should get a place at her first choice as we are in catchment and at a feeder school (Catholic) but I will feel so much happier when I see that offer in writing. We can log on at a minute past midnight.

Kia, From the Bromley Admissons booklet:

• Bromley admissions will begin to re-allocate, in waiting list order, any offered places no longer required taking into account late applications with exceptional circumstances and proven changes of address received 3 December to 1 March.
May onwards

• Changes of address, late applications without exceptional circumstances and requests for additional preferences received from 2 March now taken into account for waiting lists.

Silly question but is there an obvious place to go to on eadmissions tomorrow? I can't see anywhere set up, only the original application.
