Dd was aqa chemistry. Seems happy enough

AtiaoftheJulii · 22/06/2016 20:22

Sounds like a decent day - good to hear!

jaxxyj · 22/06/2016 21:57

Hi all DD doesn't want me to do anything until after her last exam ( she has two tomorrow) so I have a couple of emails in draft ready to be sent off to head of year and head of Spanish! Will keep you informed. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions!

snowy508601 · 23/06/2016 00:03

DD is looking forward to STEP 3 tomorrow which is surprising as the previous 2 step papers have been very difficult.

Needmoresleep · 23/06/2016 08:18

Best wishes for the STEP3 people. It has been a busy week. DD says the chemistry was the worst exam so far. However she needs an A not the A* other medics have been asked for so it should be fine. I think she is at the stage where she just wants to get to the end. There was bound to be a hard exam, and it is better having it later than at the beginning.

The weather here is awful. A good reason to stay in to sleep and revise. The Iceland and Ireland matches yesterday provided enough r&r for a while. Plus it is her first chance to vote, as she was too young for the Mayoral election. She, and I assume other Yr 13s, has received quite a lot of lobbying from younger pupils. (As if she would listen to them!)

AtiaoftheJulii · 23/06/2016 09:11

Yes, dd has only just turned 18 too, so first opportunity to vote - exciting!

Good luck to STEP3 peeps, and jaxxy's dd with her two, and anyone else?

Leeds2 · 23/06/2016 10:04

My DD has biology this morning. Her final exam!

We are going to the Shard for afternoon tea by way of celebration, then home to vote. She was old enough to vote in the mayoral elections, but unable to do so, so it will be her first time voting too.

MorvahRising · 23/06/2016 11:05

DS is also voting for the first time. We're going to walk down and vote when DH gets home.

Amazing storm last night and quite a few floods round here.

Good luck to the STEP3 DCs and anyone else with an exam today!

MorvahRising · 23/06/2016 14:37

Leeds2 hope biology went well and enjoy your tea at the Shard.

We're not sure what to do to celebrate end of exams - after GCSEs finished we took DS out for dinner and he was so exhausted he nearly fell asleep at the table!

It seems to be going on forever. DS1 still has 3 more exams. Tomorrow is C4 and his school has an inset day so no school buses are running. I can't quite trust the public bus to get him there on time so I'll be giving him a lift and getting in late to work.

Congratulations to those who have finished and see you back here in August.

Dunlurking · 23/06/2016 20:03

Ds about to come out to vote with us once he's finished the C4 paper he's working on. His first time as well. Sorry about the rain. We've had beautiful weather up here all summer. Very sorry for those of you who haven't had a summer yet!

Well done to those who have finished. Hope today's exams went OK Good luck to all the C4s tomorrow and anyone else with exams tomorrow. After that Ds is done. Good luck those with more next week.

Leeds2 · 23/06/2016 20:24

Whereabouts are you, Dunlurking, with the beautiful weather?!!

Officials at polling station were lovely with DD. Asked her if it was her first time voting, and were really kind to her in explaining what to do and how it all worked.

Does anyone know how you get a job working in a polling station, or counting votes? And how long in advance you have to apply? My in laws used to do it many moons ago, and I always thought I would like to follow suit.

Good Luck to those with exams tomorrow, and also of course next week. DD's boyfriend's last exam isn't until Wednesday, which just seems so late.

SecretMcSquirrels · 23/06/2016 21:38

Last one tomorrow. DS came with me to vote and they asked if it was his first time. I have a friend who does both the polling station and the count. It's a long day. Both DS's have thought long and hard about their vote. DS2 would have liked to stay up and watch the result but has a 9am exam.

Leeds2 · 23/06/2016 21:54

DD is at her boyfriend's but, as he has an exam tomorrow, she told me she would be home by 9 and we could watch the results together. No sign of her as yet .......

Good Luck to your DS tomorrow, SecretMcSquirrels. Probably best he doesn't stay up! How did your friend get the job at the polling station/counting?

jaxxyj · 23/06/2016 21:55

DD finished today with Biology (went well) and Sociology ( so,so) so that is both my DC finished A levels. It was lovely weather here in Newcastle today. email into school re Spanish exam so we will wait to see what they have to say! Good luck to everyone's DC who have exams tomorrow!

Stillunexpected · 23/06/2016 21:57

And we are finished! Huge relief all round.

hellsbells99 · 23/06/2016 23:34

Glad that your DCs all thought their exams went well today.
I am away with work for a couple of days so hope DD has been revising all day. I am also hoping that she gets up in time tomorrow - she is not a morning person. I have told her to set several alarms! She is driving to school so I don't need to worry about buses. Good luck all with C4 tomorrow.

hellsbells99 · 23/06/2016 23:35

Both DDs apparently went and voted together and thought it was very exciting!

zazas · 23/06/2016 23:38

Oh my...one more exam tomorrow (Math/C4) and I might get my DD back as a fully functional human being! I can hardly remember what she was like before studying took over her life - months/years ago it seems! I feel like she won't even know who / what she is anymore! It will nice at least not to have the tears and snapping at her younger siblings. Although she is worried that maybe that is the real her and she can no longer hide this side of her behind exams (smile). We are both putting that Thursday day in August way out of our minds for now!

SecretMcSquirrels · 24/06/2016 09:07

Leeds She's done it for years at every election, the same friend also does exam invigilating. The council recruits about 3 months before a known polling day I think. No particular qualifications needed other than the stamina to stay up all day and night.

Needmoresleep · 24/06/2016 09:46

Leeds, I used to work for a local authority, and they approached staff. I don't know if they needed to ask anyone else, and I suspect that particular Authority may have been cautious as Tower Hamlets problems were starting to come to light. A couple of colleagues always did it and seemed to enjoy it, saying it was interesting. DC were too young. It is a long day.

You could always look up who is the election officer on the council website and ask.

I hope it does not affect the exam today. I was up till 4.00 so missed DD leaving this morning. She is likely to be quite upset, worse when she remembers her chalet job pays in sterling. She took voting seriously and the demographics of her peer group (metropolitan, young, affluent, international) was very heavily remain, so the result will have been unexpected.

OP posts:
SecretMcSquirrels · 24/06/2016 12:11

Unexpected here as well NMS I suspect there is a generational divide over this. All the young people I know seemed to be voting remain.

hellsbells99 · 24/06/2016 12:12

DD text to sat Edexcel M4 went well Smile
1 physics paper left to go.....roll on Tuesday

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/06/2016 12:19

Well, at least the referendum result took dd's mind off C4! Haven't spoken to her, just had a text saying it was actually ok!!! So she's happy(ish) and finished Grin

Hope the other C4ers were happy too Smile
