MORSE?

Dunlurking · 18/08/2016 11:52

Well done dcs of Ellen, Needmore and Squirrels (saw on the other thread Squirrels - and thanks for the congrats). Bethan I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Warwick place. Ds got his Warwick place and I'm so relieved. In the end it was a comfortable B in Maths (and he did worse in C4 than C3, surprisingly, AND he was very wise to repeat C1 and C2 as he wouldn't have hit the B otherwise - so huge thanks to everyone who advised about repeating last year!)

Off to sleep. Good luck and well done to other regulars on here who I have seen posting on the other thread. Hope things work out for those who haven't made their offers. Keep us posted please.

Dunlurking · 18/08/2016 11:53

Cross posted. Good news Bethan. Glad to hear he's still going to Warwick!

Peaceandl0ve · 18/08/2016 11:58

Whoop whoop, DD is off to study Vet Med!

BethanKate · 18/08/2016 12:05

Discrete Mathematics

Needmoresleep · 18/08/2016 12:08

Sounds like a Warwick meet up. DD is anxiously waiting to hear how her friends have done so she can finalise her plans to gate crash as many freshers weeks as possible. Perhaps I can gatecrash the Warwick drop off and meet everyone for coffee/lunch after. Though actually having experienced the traffic jam that is an Open Day, I will make sure I am at least 50 miles away on drop off day.

Great news Bethan and Peace.

Well done Peace's DD!

Apparently when they looked at his PS it was apparent that Discrete Maths would really suit him & they seem really keen to have him.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 18/08/2016 15:43

Warwick meet up it is! Really pleased, BethanKate, and well done, dunlurking DS. See you there! (Oh yes, it's not us going, is it?! Wink )

VetMed, Peace! Fantastic!

Peaceandl0ve · 18/08/2016 16:26

Well done to all that got what they wanted, good luck to those that didn't. I still cant help thinking that this is too much pressure on young immature minds.

BethanKate · 18/08/2016 17:41

It's been feeling like too much pressure for middle aged minds here.

Dunlurking · 18/08/2016 17:50

Well done to your dd for vet school Peace. Bethan Discrete Maths sounds good. Yes to Warwick meet up!

I've definitely been feeling the pressure too. I need a rest. Sending dh to do the collection from party/night club run tonight! In fact even ds wilting now and says he may just do the pre- party.

mygrandchildrenrock · 18/08/2016 22:32

My boy dropped a grade and had an offer from Oxford. His reserve was Sheffield who want him, but Oxford are still considering whether to take him. They said they would email him in a day or two. Late afternoon they were still talking to his school, which we are reading as a good sign.
It's been a day of very mixed emotions here!
Congratulations for everyone who got what they needed.

Needmoresleep · 18/08/2016 23:02

Good luck. It must be a tough wait.

Thanks, it is!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 19/08/2016 09:32

DS1 was home at 2.00am from the celebration/commiseration results party. I'm doing some shopping with him today as he's taken yesterday and today off work. He needs crockery and cooking stuff! Exciting. Grin

Best of luck to your DS, (or is that DGS? Smile ) mygrandchildrenrock.

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/08/2016 09:38

It is exciting isn't it! DS got his accommodation offer yesterday and feel we can finally make plans!

Iso pleased EllenJane that your DS got his first choice after sharing the journey on here!

mygrandchildrenrock · 19/08/2016 09:50

It is my youngest DS who is also an uncle to quite a few children!

BethanKate · 19/08/2016 10:12

Your DS did really well EllenJane. Feel for you mygrandchildren, really hope they come back with good news.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 19/08/2016 10:49

I was wondering if I'd been unduly pessimistic but I'm usually a realist. Even DS was surprised, though. Warwick was always a long shot, but worth trying for. I always thought Cambridge was going to be out of his reach, and after seeing his exceptional friend getting S levels on all 3 STEP exams I know we were right to discount Cambridge.

This can become a getting ready for Uni thread now! Maybe move over to Higher Ed when we reach 1000?

SecretSquirrels · 19/08/2016 12:28

It was exciting yesterday. Going to uni became real for DS2 for the first time. His accommodation offer came in before lunchtime and he got his first choice.

We had a lovely family night out last night and DS2 is going clubbing tonight with friends so another sleepless night til he crawls in at 4am

It seems like yesterday when I was thinking about packing for DS1 going to Warwick for his first year, now he's going into year 3.
I have "packing lists" for 1st year in S/C halls, 2nd year in rented house and now DS1's 3rd year beckons Blush.
Our house is going to be very quiet soon...

mygrandchildrenrock · 19/08/2016 13:21

My son's mark has now changed and he's got an A* in English so the Oxford offer still stands! Trouble is he spent all day yesterday getting his head round Oxford not wanting him and his reserve were in touch really wanting him and he's now not sure what to do!

Needmoresleep · 19/08/2016 14:46

Wonderful! He should do what he wanted to do when he was calm and before all the emotion...which is take the Oxford place.

mygrandchildrenrock · 19/08/2016 15:37

Good advice Needmoresleep and I fully agree!

BethanKate · 19/08/2016 16:02

Good news mygrandchildren!

Got UCAS confirmation of DS's course about 11.30 then went out to lunch to celebrate. Feels strange now knowing for certain where he's going & Warwick is a reality not just a dream.

Needmoresleep · 19/08/2016 16:17

Poor DD. She has now got the marks for the International A level she sat. (Dont ask me what an International A level is, I dont know but results don't come through in the same way.)

Again she is one UMS short of the grade above. The same thing happened in two other A levels. So three UMS cost her three grades and what would otherwise have looked like a stunning set of results.

She has her confirmed place and it does not matter. The lesson for her is recalibrate her "doing enough" so she is not so close to boundaries in future. Some of her friends have done very very well so it is hurting a little.
