Finborough School - Suffolk

I am interested in Finborough School but have looked into its history which doesn't look good! Has anyone had any dealings with the school - good or bad?

I think its history truly is history so I wouldnt worry about that. However it wouldn't be my choice of secondary school. The more academic children locally tend travel to Ipswich or Burys st Edmunds. Finborough has small numbers in its secondary school and the sixth form is tiny. No personal experience of the school but a friend did have her children there for nursery and preprep but has moved them now as she wasnt happy with the school.

Thank you. Looking to move to the area and would like a small school - non selective however my son is an average 10 year old so don't want to under sell him but equally don't want to push him too far. I was going to look at Finborough School and also Culford School.

Culford is worth a look then. Lots of children from the Stowmarket direction will bus to the Ipswich schools, which would give options of Ipswich school (academic), St Josephs (Catholic) or Royal Hospital school (Navy traditionally but now much more of a local school). RHS does have Saturday school and long days. Other options further afield would be Woodbridge School, Framlingham College (from age 13), or Felstead in Essex, depending on where you want to be. Whilst most of these have entrance exams, they are not highly selective and an average boy stands a good chance except possibly Ipswich School.

I have 3 friends with 8 children between them at Finborough and they are all very happy with it. Have a look for yourself.

Stoke college is also worth a look. Small non selective school, but manages to still stretch the able pupils without the pressure cooker effect!
