Applying For School Place After House Move

We live in a borough A and have a dd in yr6. By September next year due to family and work circumstances it is very likely we will have to move to borough B which is about 8 miles away and difficult to travel to from borough A by public transport. Our dilemma is if we apply for a secondary school place for dd in borough A and then move to Borough B will she then be seen as having a school place despite it being almost impossible to travel to. Will Dd therefore not be seen as priority if we apply for a school place for her in borough B if she already has a school place in borough A?

If any school in borough B you name as a preference has a place available it must be offered to you regardless of whether or not you already have a place elsewhere. Similarly your daughter's position on waiting lists will not be affected by whether or not she already has a place. However, if the journey from home to school takes less than around 75 minutes each way the LA may take the view that the distance is not unreasonable which means they will be less likely to invoke the Fair Access Protocol to find your daughter a place at a school that is already full.
