Moving to Kidbrooke/Blackheath. Schools - Argh!

DP's work means we are going to moving to around the Blackheath area, (but not the ££££ bits lol!) after Easter next year. We have two DC, who will be Year 7 and Year 8 next Sept.

I've had a quick look around, and most of the schools round there seem to be private, which is not an option.

What state secondary schools are there nearby, or with easy transport links? Will we be in catchment for any of them? It's likely we will be more Lee than Blackheath, I think?

Anyone got any views or experience? Words of wisdom? This seems so scary and DC are not happy at all...

If you're in Blackheath over on the Lee side then Thomas Tallis is the comprehensive you'd probably get allocated. It's in Kidbrooke. It's big but fab new facilities and ok results.

There's an open evening next week if you wanted a look.

Thomas Tallis, St Mathew's Academy (Catholic) and Prendergast Hilly Fields (girls) are all close.

Lots travel out-of-borough to the grammar schools in Bromley, Bexley and the Dartford grammars - although if that is a possibility you'll need to get on applications sharpish for your Year 7.

Some commute further, and head to the central London schools - The Grey Coat Hospital (CofE) is popular with Blackheath families.
