Anyone want to talk about yr7 CAT scores?

I read about them for yrs on MN but only today finally got some for a DC. I know Fisher FT use them to set targets, is there somewhere online I can look up what the approx. targets might be from DS's scores?

DS's highest score is in the Spatial domain, there's a lot less info online about Spatial domain than the others (verbal etc). Does the Spatial CAT score impact any of his subject targets besides math or DT? Thx.

  1. Does your school not provide a meeting or info to explain them?

  2. I wouldn't get too excited. They are much more useful for the school to view whole cohorts than individual pupils. i.e. They have an idea now whether results in 2020 will be better, worse or similar to the 2019 ones depending on the year group's scores.

  3. They are only one input into predictions, parent's postcode being another iirc.

The letter the scores came with didn't mention how CATs go into targets, I just picked that fact up from MN. Letter said that non-V-R goes into math-science-geog.
I guess Verbal-R goes into English/essay subjects
Quantit-R goes into mathy subjects.

Spatial-R seems to depend on having a good visual memory & spatial awareness. Would Art be another topic where it matters? (DS hates creative subjects, mind, but getting better about them).

We're actually quite good at Spatial-R on my side (me & my Dad) so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. :).

I think Spatial is a newish test as my s1 didn't do that element when he was in Y7. I vaguely remember finding something somewhere once to show correlation between CAT scores & KS3/GCSE targets. Maybe google it? I really wouldn't worry about it too much. Results have never been discussed with parents by our school. Just used internally I think.

This link has some prediction info, but like prevP said, nothing on the spatial domain. Thx for replies.
