Student discounts in Sixth Form

Snowfilledsky · 11/09/2015 14:57

Ds1 is 16 and just started 6th form. Is he entitled to any of the student discounts you see advertised in shops or is that all in relation to University students? Anyone know? TIA

My dd is at a sixth form college rather than a school sixth form and they have college ID cards and which she has used in shops. Sixth formers can also get a NUS Extra card I think but there might be a charge for that. Myunidays website is also good for student discounts.

Most sixth forms around here have an ID card, and you can get a lot of discounts with that. The NUS Extra card costs just £12 and gives great discounts (25% at the Gourmet Burger Company) - so you can buy that for him and he can "pay" for family meals out.

He's at the school 6th form, sorry didn't mention that. Thanks for the replies. Getting him to pay for meals sounds great. Smile

He says he's getting a 'student card' from school but is predictably sketchy on the details. Hmm

My DD paid for the NUS Extra card, as the shops where we live wouldn't accept a school issued card. Her purchases at Jack Wills, Paperchase and Fat Face (her? purchases!) have resulted in savings of more than £12.

That sounds great Leeds, I will see what card the school produce then get the upgrade. Thanks.

Have a look at the shops the NUS Extra card will give you a discount. If they are places your DD shops in, it will be easy to get back the cost. She also gave me the number when I was ordering online for Christmas ..........
