As we are considering this for dd1 - currently at girl's independent school.

Reasons - current school very small and social side not working for dd1. Cost! Local state well regarded.

But she does want to go into medicine and current private school has good track record of getting kids into medical school/medical based degrees.

hundreds and hundreds of kids go to the state 6th forms from private schools round here
its barely a cause of comment

I used to be a sixth form teacher in the state sector so have taught many, many young people who had previously been educated in the independent sector. The only issue that some of them had was dealing with the change in culture. A few have needed a bit more support to help them through that but they've all made the transition well (not withstanding the one student who had to be expelled but I won't dwell on that!).

Its very common here - especially in the Sixth Form colleges, but even DCs Comp takes about 25 a year almost all from private schools.

Do the local state schools have as good a record of getting students into med school? They may be better than present school.
