pre-tests

My ds is entering year 6 and will be doing his pre tests for 13+.

I'm not sure how the process works.

So as far as I know he will sit for his pre tests in January.

How long will it take to hear back?

If he did well in his pre tests what happens after that? do they get called back for an interview?

If they then do well in the interview are they basically in or do they need to take another exam in year 8?

So sorry about all the questions.

I would really appreciate some help, thank you so much in advance

Schools do vary, so it's worth looking for a timetable on the admissions bit of the websites.

Typically, there will be exam and you'll hear within a week or two if your DS is being called for interview. Then another week or two until offers.

If an offer is made, it will be conditional on a certain level of performance at the end of year 8. This would usually be by getting a specified level in a common Entrance. But some schools run their own exams (either instead of, or as well as CE; and these may be the scholarship ones).

Normally different for every school!

We interview on the day of the entrance assessments and then offer places within a fortnight.

Agree it will vary. Often the place is conditional on CE/CAS although in practice the bar is lower than without a pretest and some schools will offer a place earlier. Results can be pretty quick if the test is computerised. If you are hoping for an award the assessments will be in year 8. The pretest may be used to screen for suitable candidates to invite for academic scholarships.
