Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

Exam stress and results day both seem so long ago now.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 04/09/2015 11:27

Same here soup the co ed sixth form brought on a storm of Lynx and hair gel Grin.

DD put make up on Shock. She never used to even brush her hair for her old school (let her mates do it on the bus).

dingit · 04/09/2015 12:48

My dd has gone from co ed to single sex. Does that mean she's going to become a minger Grin

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2015 13:12

I couldn't believe it when I smelt the Lynx at 7.20am - it was DS (only Y10) up and dressed[shocked] The Lynx is nothing new, but the getting up at 7.20, having breakfast and getting out at 7.50 is!

DD also got up early to shower and get ready for today and left with plenty of time this morningSmile

Dingit Grin

SoupDragon · 04/09/2015 13:17

I'm not sure it works the same for girls, Dingit. :) Anyway, if you're lucky, a sense of self worth and personal hygiene has already been instilled within her!

dingit · 04/09/2015 13:21

Tilly, my ds ( year 10) uses Linx liberally, but it's doesn't necessarily mean he's washed. Instructions in this house, are usually ' go and have a shower - and use soap'

SugarPlumTree · 04/09/2015 16:02

I can sort of imagine David Bellamy doing commentary on Teen watch, about the cleaning habits of both male and female teens of the species.

DD has come home and announced she definitely wants to go to College so decision seems to be made. Should have put money on her hating Sociology and it not being what she thought, I'd have won .

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/09/2015 16:03

Last day of the hols for us today and feeling a bit more organised now we've done the uniform shop x2 at school shop, and I've seen DD in her new uniform for sixth form, and DS has a new blazer too (as well as new shirt and trousers from M&S). Both looking quite smart for a change!
We also managed lunch in town with friends so all in all quite a good day, though school shop was a bit busy. Back to school on Monday - I hope mine get themselves up nice and early like all of yours Smile Also waiting to hear back from a volunteering opportunity for DD once a week so hope that goes her way.

QOD · 04/09/2015 16:57

Dd has gone from single.sex grammar to Co ed 6th form at an otherwise BOYS grammar
geography today was her and 5 boys ... that field trip will be fun!

Horsemad · 04/09/2015 17:11

DS caught the bus on time today! Grin Did I mention his bus pass never turned up (because the paperwork to pay for it never arrived and we didn't realise until last w/e, as too absorbed with DS1's Uni prep Hmm).

So, bus driver told him if it isn't here by Mon then he can't get on the bus (mum's taxi revving up now because DH got the paperwork y'day and has POSTED it back instead of paying online. What a numpty. Hmm

This means I have to drive a 14 mile round trip on my day off until bus pass arrives. Aarrgghh!

Ripeningapples · 04/09/2015 17:58

Monday start for us too. She's had her hair bobbed and highlighted, has a new pair of skinny jeans, two new tops and a new bag. Could do with new shoes but haven't found any she likes and that fit. Seems well ahead with prep. Fingers crossed. Oh, and has co-ordinating ring binders and lever arch files.

I managed to apply on-line for her travel ticket and my jaw dropped when it arrived less than 48 hours later. We live in zone 6 but have an outside London post code so she doesn't get an Oyster but does get half price travel.

SanityClause · 04/09/2015 18:39

Just catching up with the thread.

All my DC went back on Wednesday - DD2 started school (Y10) and DD1 (6th form) and DS (Y7) had their induction day at the same school (boys' school, with mixed 6th form).

DD1 has really enjoyed her first few days. She noticed that although her skirts are as short as some others, and she wears, if anything, more makeup, she hasn't been told off. She thinks it's because she buttons her shirt up to her neck. Her reasoning is the teachers see one button too many undone, so they tell the girl off for short skirt and too much makeup, rather than having to point out their cleavage might be in view!

We shall see if her theory proves to be true!

LynetteScavo · 04/09/2015 19:36

I've had an email from school to say 6th form lessons don't start until the 14th! DS has to register on Monday (I thought we did that on results day, but hey) then nothing for two days, then Thursday and Friday they're given preparation work and then lessons start the following Monday.

I don't think DS has been to a lesson for six months now!

I think some maths homework has been done....the last time DS did homework was several years ago! I'm trying not to get too excited.

Horsemad · 04/09/2015 19:42

Wow Lynette, the 14th seems quite late to be starting!

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2015 20:02

14thShock that's really late! Bet he's the envy of all his mates who aren't at that sixthform!

spudmasher · 04/09/2015 21:32

Oh my goodness! All the stories of transformation! It's like watching butterflies emerge from the cocoon!! Wonderful!
DD is getting her piercing in the top of her ear.... She came down for college today all fancy looking with her hair pinned back in one side and even arrived home with lipstick on! They didn't finish until 7.30pm doing something called Full out Friday where the students got together in groups and put on a song and dance for everyone to Don't stop me Now. She's shown me the snap chat videos and it looks like a party....
She is officially 'buzzing'. I'm so relieved but alarmed at the rate of change in her. I feel she has gone.....bit sad but happy.

Auntpetunia2015 · 04/09/2015 23:54

Ha QOD ds is the opposite his English class has 5 student and the other 4 are girls, and they're doing The taming of the Shrew so that should bring about some interesting discussions. He's apparently done very lesson today and had his SENCO head of 6th form meeting which went ok! No idea what actually was said bit I'm sure I'll find out.

spud glad dds happy with college it's such a change for them.

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2015 07:56

Spud, DD has one of those - cartilage piercing? Sounds like she's joined Fame! How fabSmile

DD is really liking her new school but is quite amazed by the contrast between it and her old school. Both local compsConfused

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2015 07:58

Oh and AuntP, glad your DS had a good day. Not sure what books DD is going to be doing. I wonder if she knows?!

HSMMaCM · 05/09/2015 12:48

Sugar good luck to your DD at college. I keep telling DD that she still has last minute options. She seems happy now she has seen her timetable though and "every day is a good day." Grin

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2015 15:44

SugarPlum, hope it goes well for your DD at collegeSmile

My DD is not 100% certain the new sixth-form is for her - so different from her old one, she is worried it is too mono-cultural (ie white MC) compared to her old one. Watch this space!

SugarPlumTree · 05/09/2015 16:10

I thought of Fame reading about Spud's DD too ! They are all spreading their wings now which is lovely.

Thanks for the good wishes for DD. Email has gone off to old school today so she is committed to College. Think it's going to be a difficult week as DH flies out tomorrow and I feel very guilty he is going on his own but he is being lovely about it and thanking me for sorting DD.

His siblings are all old enough to be his parents so he'll be well looked after. Then I hope we can have a little normality back in our lives as it has been an eventful year. I want the most boring 2016 ever and just be able to post 'really normal boring week this week.'

It is very early days for them yet. How lovely every day is a good one HSM ! I hope that by this time next week DD is a bit clearer about how she feels about it BTM.

I hope those of you with older ones about to go off to University aren't drowning under a sea of shopping and packing.

MossAgate · 05/09/2015 16:27

Definitely drowning under boxes in this house. Oldest has gone back after a bit of a row. Sad.

Next one due to go soon and has a last minute social diary bigger than a film star. Totally exhausting.

spudmasher · 05/09/2015 17:00

'Everyday is a good one'
You can't ask for more than that! It must be such a treat for them just doing the things they enjoy! DD is not missing physics, or Spanish!

Horsemad · 05/09/2015 17:58

Yep, Uni stuff all the way here, constantly checking lists for DS1 - two wks today he's moving in! Shock
DS2 is just looking forward to next week and footy trials for school team. He's had a couple of lessons and has a bit of Maths homework for the w/e. Fab news is the tricky Maths teacher has left and the Best Ever Maths Teacher has returned, yaaaay!
I am so pleased with this news! Smile
