Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

SugarPlum - you are right to let her own the decision. I have given DD my opinion on her A level choices, but she knows she can make the final call. Hopefully when she comes home today, she will know what she is doing.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 03/09/2015 09:01

Welcome Peach. Glad it's all been helpful. I find the general ball park guide very reassuring too IYKWIM Smile Seems festivals may be on the cards in coming years but we've managed to dodge that this year! I remember going myself though and wouldn't want them to miss out entirely. In fact we even took them both to WOMAD with us a few years ago. But have a feeling my festival days may be behind me now, unless I could take a camper van or would still go for the day Smile How's your summer been?

mummytime · 03/09/2015 09:16

Well DD has gone, first day of college, but the first two days are induction, lessons start on Monday. She actually got one piece of homework done yesterday, 3/4 to go (2 teachers for Geography). I gave her a lift to the station today as she was feeling sick, I hope it goes well.
On the drive back from the Station I panicked a bit seeing several students going to another local school, so had to double check that the youngest isn't back until tomorrow - and I think we need to buy shoes...

Peach1886 · 03/09/2015 09:39

Hello Juggling, and actually that's how the summer has been...juggling...as we've also got a new baby...so the last few months haven't been exactly restful! Which reminds me, dentist appt for DSD in an hour, best get her prised out from under the duvet...

SheGotAllDaMoves · 03/09/2015 10:12

Induction day here today. Troops sent off with a sausage and beans breakfast.

I'm heading into the university where I work. We're trying to organise our forthcoming open day.

bebumba · 03/09/2015 10:32

Induction day here too. Then it all begins on Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing how ds gets on with the early starts. His routine to date has been get up, shower, grab something for breakfast, grab his bag and make the 10 minute walk to school. He has now got to allow for a 20 min walk to bus stop, an hour on the bus and 15 minute walk at the other end. After 3 months of late rising Tuesday should be fun!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 03/09/2015 10:44

Congrats on your new baby Peach Flowers
Hope DSD is settling in well at yours
Must be the week for appointments of all kinds - in our case car related
Have just dropped car off at garage for an MOT - hope that won't turn out too expensive. Nervous as brakes have been a bit squeaky Shock
Hope all is well at the dentist

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2015 11:57

No first day photo here - just managed to avert a complete melt-down as DD couldn't wake up and then was in a panic.... DH drove her to school, so I am hoping all goes smoothly after that.

Peach - what a big change for you - hope it all goes really wellSmile

ono40 · 03/09/2015 12:14

Glad to hear all the DCs are getting on well. DS starts tomorrow, still need to buy a suit, shoes, folders, pens.....eek! He also needs to complete another essay (7 down, 1 to go) but frankly that's not my problem.

SPT - I think your DD may be better off doing something she loves. I hated my A levels and found it hard to see them as a means to an end and didn't do as well as I should have. DS's best friend is off to college to do a music BTEC as this is his passion even though he got all As and A*s.

mummytime · 03/09/2015 12:53

DD is lucky as although her college is further away, it will be quicker than walking to her school (8 min train journey in the middle).
Tomorrow will be interesting as she has an after school commitment - and I'm going to attempt to collect her and drive her there - not sure which route to use yet, Google suggests one where I know there will be congestion - but it depends how much other congestion there is...
Oh and my little one will suddenly have to adapt to being back at school, which might be tricky.

SugarPlumTree · 03/09/2015 15:52

Seems to have had a better day here. She has an interview next Tuesday at College plus there is space on the bus so still has a bit of time to decide.

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

ono40 · 03/09/2015 16:28

Right, off for a lie down to recover from the cost of sixth form shopping - I will never moan about the price of uniform again!! One suit, one jacket, pair of trousers, three shirts (he can wear plain white the other 2 days) and a pair of shoes comes to.........no, I am off to weep! Need to hide the credit card bill from DH Wink

HSMMaCM · 03/09/2015 17:41

DD is back from her first day. Didn't speak to start with:

Me: did it go ok?
DD: yeah
Me: did you sort out your A level choices
DD: yeah
Me: great. What are you taking?
DD: you should know
And she's gone. Sadly my psychic powers have failed me and I will have to use my detective skills next week to suss out what she's taking.

Anyway ... On the plus side, it clearly wasn't dreadful Grin.

Horsemad · 03/09/2015 19:34

DS missed the bus! Luckily I work in the town where his school is, so I took him! That's a good start to 6th Form Hmm

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/09/2015 20:32

HSM when you've figured all that out could you use your psychic powers to tell me the numbers for tomorrow's EuroMillions? Grin I'll share. I'll even bung ono a few quid to cover the cost of her DS's new clothes.

spudmasher · 03/09/2015 20:36

Horsemad, I'm actually quite pleased to hear about the missed bus and the other oversleeping/ disorganisation stories today! It brings me great comfort, as DD managed today to lose her keys, a pair of foot thongs ( I know) and a hairbrush (which had sentimental value as it was the last ever gift from her grandfather).......she claimed it wasn't her fault because she had to empty her bag because her water bottle leaked and was in a rich to get to the other building.....She really needs to sort herself out.
Then she proclaimed she is getting a piercing on Sunday.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2015 20:36

Apparently, DS1 thinks "A Levels look hard". :)

HSMMaCM · 03/09/2015 21:47

Woolly - 1,2,3,4,5,6 is my best guess Hmm

Spud - a piercing !!!! Where?

Soup - Grin

She started talking 15 mins ago. I now know the subjects, a new friend she has made and what has changed. She even showed me her planner Smile

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2015 22:45

Well DD came back full of it today (in a good way!) so she's off to a good startSmile She was doing homework or something when I came in from work!!!

She is quite shocked by how much stricter it is and a lot less of an ethnic mix (despite being another local comp), plus very few boys in her lessons.

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2015 22:46

Spud, DD has been threatening to get a nose piercing for over 6 months. No doubt she will get one now!

dingit · 04/09/2015 06:47

Dd was quite chatty yesterday. The true test is today, getting up early, slumming it on the bus, a full timetable and work tomorrow !

SheGotAllDaMoves · 04/09/2015 08:37

A very good day was had yesterday.

DD declared that everyone was super friendly. Various boys (who are numerically in the majority) showed her where she needed to be and helped her open some desk or other Hmm.

mummytime · 04/09/2015 08:56

DD came back early yesterday, had a good day. And got on with one of her pieces of homework for Monday. (2 down I hope)
She said she learnt more from it than she'd ever learnt in school - which I think is a good sign.

ono40 · 04/09/2015 10:53

Thanks Woolly - holding you to that Wink!!

DS up early and off for his first day, even managed a doorstep photo although strict instructions about not putting it on any social media (I don't think his friends will be browsing my FB timeline anyway).

Good luck with the piercing Spud! I just dread one of mine wanting those ear lobe stretchers - can you imagine how horrible they look when you take them out? In 60 years' time old folks homes will be full of people with earlobes down to their shoulders and grey/blue faded tattoos moaning about the youth of today!!

I'm off before I turn into my mother Grin

SoupDragon · 04/09/2015 11:19

DS1 had an unprecedented shower in the morning two days in a row, of his own volition.

Is this a new found maturity or because his single sex school has a coeducational 6th form...?
