Just want to ask what age can a child have a little job? What sort of employment can a child take? Not that I am desperate for money but just the fact that my dc1 keeps wanting to have a little job to earn her own money to spend on whatever she wants?

Theoretically, from 13 but the employers have to be careful they don't break regulations, and they lose flexibility with younger dc, so, in practice, it's very difficult to get work before you are 16. Some jobs of course, you need to be 18.

Paper rounds are the only chance most 13 yr olds have of getting paid work.

I think once they're 16 and have their national insurance number they're fine. Under 16 and really there's only cash in hand type jobs, babysitting or paper rounds.
