Thanks Littleham . Durham are saying they will notify everyone by the following Weds if they are being considered as near misses but yes I can see that even hanging around that long might cause problems with the insurance. At the moment DD still isn't keen to take the insurance option so if she misses the A* and has no luck with the near miss, then she will probably take a gap year and reapply to Durham for languages only.

mumslife Yep - where you been Grin Grin Grin

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 14:23

Welcome back mumslife! DD1 is happy now - saw her boyfriend last night & has gone into town to meet friends for lunch. I have told her to go into Santander to enquire about opening a student account.
Does anyone know if she can do this before results day? And also if she already has a teenage account with them, can they convert this and so keep the same account details? She hasn't filled in any bank details on student finance and I am worried it may delay her loan assuming she is going to university somewhere
DD2 is also out for lunch .....and they have left me with all the holiday washing! At least I am not back to work until Monday Grin

Horsemad · 07/08/2015 14:45

Currently queueing to get into Norfolk Smile might have a little visit to UEA while we're here - it's about the only Uni in the UK we haven't visited in the past year Grin

circular · 07/08/2015 14:56

hellsbells Yes - Santander told DD they will convert from Mini 123. But they have to go in with ID etc to make the changeover, and will need appointment. Not sure if you can convert early, but DD didn't want to as has existing railcard.

MrsBartlet · 07/08/2015 15:04

I feel your pain Horsemad - I visit Norfolk several times a month for work and queue to get in regularly. It's worth it though as it is such a beautiful part of the country. Have fun!

GypsyFloss · 07/08/2015 15:10

hellsbells We need to do the same with Santander. We were told to make an appt with the confirmation letter from uni and they will change it to a student account. They said that you keep the same back account details , it's just an admin thing from their end and also to access the railcard. So your Dd could put her current account info on to student finance now if she wants.

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 15:40

Thanks everyone for the Santander info. I will get her to add her current account details. Can she do this online or will she need to fill the form in they sent us when she applied originally?
Horsemad - we visited UEA as DD1 did a summer course there last year. It is quite ugly in terms of buildings (reminded me of Bath uni) but a lovely campus. A lot of accommodation was on campus with another 'student village' just off the campus. We all loved it (and loved Norwich as well) but DD didn't end up applying because she decided it was just too far away.

hellsbells as far as I know your Dd can add her account info online on the student finance website.

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 19:02

Thanks Gypsy.
Good choice by your DD Mumslife! We loved it but unfortunately a long way from us.

We finally arrived and loving Norfolk already Smile
Hellsbells, DS was very taken with the 'mood lighting' in the accommodation at Bath!! He's wondering if UEA might have the same? Hmm

Headofthehive55 · 07/08/2015 19:41

My daughter got her results last year. She ended up with her insurance, but was texted by another uni that she had rejected after interview ( UEA) who said if she wasn't happy with the insurance place they were interested in her. ( she felt it was a bit far from us which is why she had rejected it but loved the campus). So it does seem as if you can still negotiate sometimes after the event.

I feel for you all, it was the worst of days. Our school opened really early, before track so we made the mistake of going in at opening time. It would have been much better I think to try track first. We had an agonising wait knowing she made neither offer...

I know things are different year on year but places were dropping offers last year at lot.

Littleham · 07/08/2015 20:54

Definitely check track first. Saves a lot of angst.

Santander wouldn't open dd1's student account last year until she could take in her confirmation of achieving her place letter from the university.

I would like mood lighting installed at home ready for results day. Wink

Gypsy if she feels Durham is important then I agree a gap year sounds good. My DD took her insurance, which was exactly the same course. There is still a lot of unresolved angst.

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 21:55

Mumslife - coming from 'up North', UEA is over 4.5 hours drive from us and even longer by train. But loved both the uni and Norwich. DD ended up applying for mainly Midlands/Northern universities although did apply for Bath (but didn't choose it in her final two).

muffinmonster · 08/08/2015 11:19

For anyone who's struggling to keep the dream alive, this thread makes very cheering reading.

HocusUcas · 08/08/2015 18:33

Muffin - this made me laugh.

I have been feeling irrationally hopeful about R-Day for the past couple of weeks. I think it's because thinking realistically is so unpleasant. I did try it for a few minutes but I came over all trembly.

HocusUcas · 08/08/2015 18:34

I know exactly what you mean. Increasingly the realism is creeping in.

hellsbells99 · 08/08/2015 19:37

All together now....hands over our ears...... "la la la la" and then hit the Wine!
Reality does not need to be faced for another 5 days Hmm

Littleham · 08/08/2015 19:56

La la la argh

Cooking is the distraction of choice. Our house is groaning with chocolate brownies, cake, home made bread and assorted savoury offerings. Shame we are 5 hours away from the chosen university otherwise culinary bribes might be attempted.

If this goes on much longer I will explode (from eating too much). Roll on Thursday.
