Year 7 Parents Evening

Please Help. I have Yr 7 parents evening tonight and last night my dd brought home her progress report. Key stage 3- apparently target levels range from 3 to 8. Yet how do I know if after 8 weeks at her new school if a 3 means she's doing dreadfully (received for PE) compared to a 4 5 or 6?
It really means nothing to me can anyone explain??
Very grateful many thanks.

someone with more knowledge may come along soon, but fwiw, my ds (also in Year 7) has targets from 5 to 7. 7 is for Maths, and in his ks2 Sats he got 5s for Maths, English & Science. I think the targets at ks3 are different from ks2.
His target for stuff he's crap at (games, drama & art) are all 5s.
I'm sure when you go along tonight the teachers will explain what these targets all mean. To be honest, I'm not too bothered about all these targets this year. I think the kids have enough on their plate with a much longer day, travel, making friends, etc etc to get too hyped up about hitting academic targets as well.

Thanks Mumblechum you've hit the nail on the head, I'm fed up with our children being constantly tested and graded. Like your ds my dd got all 5's in her Sats and also passed the 11+ with a good mark. I just wish they would let them chill out and learn at their own pace. I really don't understand why they need to endorse all this pressure. They'll have plenty of that when they leave school!! I didn't even ask last night about these target levels and the teachers were not very forthcoming so I left it at that.
