Best state secondaries in zone 1

Looking to move back into city centre - daughter is in YR 4 - so a year or two to pin down state secondary school and property. Recommendations please

If you look at the DfE comparison website you can put in your postcode, select as many of the nearest schools as you want and easily compare them on numerous metrics - not jus the headline GCSE results which will be meaningless (depends on the cohort)
Look at the progress made - similar schools vary wildly in the 'expected progress of different groups of attainers. If the middle attainers have a big percentage of 'expected' progress, and the low and high have poor results - not uncommon - fine if your DC is a middle attainer, but run for the hills if they are a high or low! This usually means that schools are focusing on the C/D boundaries and short-changing the others. The ability to get expected progress out of all pupils is a good measure of the quality of teaching.
You can also compare staffing rations, FSM and EAL numbers, persistent absence... and use it to formulate the questions to ask when you visit the schools.
