Parents of skinny beanpole boys - help!

Ds2 is in the middle of a rapid growth spurt and his school trousers are flapping somewhere above his ankles

We have temporarily solved his home clothes crisis with the discovery that uniqlo do a 28" waist with a 34" leg which is just about ok when cinched in with a belt (but won't work if/when he grows more), but I can't find any school trousers or suit trousers which are long enough and with a long enough leg

Dh suggested getting some made for him which seems a bit OTT for his last year in uniform (will be Y11 in September). Any less drastic ideas? He can't be the only tall, skinny boy out there

Have you tried Next online? They do skinny school trousers.

DS1 is not quite as tall but we have solved the same problem with M&S slim fit school trousers.

First, they seem to wear them a bit short anyway and they don't flap, so it's less obvious when they're getting short and second they come with tapes at the hem and a couple of extra inches to let down as they grow.

My DS is the same, luckily the school are pretty lax about uniform so he spent year 10 mostly in a pair of Oasis size 8 black skinnies! Not ideal but he thinks he's a rock God. For his prom I managed to find size 28" long suit pants and jacket in Primark.

grey in stock. they work K on my super skinny primary child. probably 2-3 extra inches compared to a normal leg. Hi was most miffed when i went to get him longer trousers, and came back with the same age range, but they are brill --even if the adjustible wasit is still pulled in!). Not sure how well adjustable waists will work with teenagers tho!

I found John Lewis 'long' trousers seem to come up longer than anywhere else and some have an adjustable waist right up to age 16. They are still slightly too short and he has the waist on the smallest setting and a belt but they are better than anywhere else we found. Ideally, we could do with a 36" leg!

I'd recommend M&S extra long trousers (don't come in all styles). I choose the age size to fit the inside leg. They've got adjustable waist elastic which help pull in at the top (DS2 still needs to wear a belt). They look better in the winter when his school jumper hides the extra fabric around the bum. Also they have extra on the hem which I let down if necessary.

M&S extra long are too short - he's in those at the moment, next are the wrong shape (even the skinny ones are too short and wide) - will have a look at john lewis

DS1 (15) has the same dimensions. We are trying to get a prom suit and it's a nightmare. Hire shop stop at 33" leg.

We are waiting on Burtons who are looking for a 30 long which he will need to wear with a belt if the leg length is ok.

He has to wear a suit for 6th form in September too.

School trouser-wise we have always gone to the uniform shop, or BHS who do a long.

30" waist 34" leg any good here here Any use? No ideas omn quality.

The site suggested suits too, tho generally the trousers are big wasited, and not so great on the leg length.

Ds has an actual waist measurement of 24" so the biggest we can usually go without him bring drowned in fabric is 28". 30" slim/skinny cut cinched in with a belt can work but if they're cut for a fuller figure it won't ... Sigh ...

BHS do trousers up to a 36" leg. Ds is a beanpole and they've been an okay fit for him.

Try ASOS, search under mens, trousers, then select: smart trousers, trousers and chinos and anything else which sounds like it might be OK.
Select on size for 28 waist, and 34 leg. Some choices which might be OK there.

I agree the links above are mainly for chunkier boys, but the 24" waist puts a 30" out, really! Obviously you are not allowed to be tall and slim built. I wish they would just leave trousers unhemmed, then everyone could have them the right length.

No idea what the quality will be like but they've only got to get him through a year

I have same issue with my 11 yr old DS. He is a beanpole of the highest order! i find Next slim fit is good.

Look at Lands End. I get DS's jeans and chino style trousers there. They are 30 waist, so he has to wear a belt (he can take them on and off without undoing!)

They go up to 36 inch inside leg.

M&S Extra Long Slim Fit -go on line rather than in the shop as they NEVER seem to have them in the shop. I end up buying about 10 pairs of different sizes as I can take them back if they don't fit. And the quality is great - you can wash them, tumble dry them and they look brand new.
