Chelmsford Primary & High Schools Help

Hiya! We will be moving to Chelmsford in August and really would like any insight you may have on good schools for our youngest son - 10 years old?

He will need to enter Primary 6 however I have been made to understand that applications/selections for Highschool must be made the September when children enter Primary 6. As we have no insight on any schools I am reaching out to the Mumsnet Nation! Smile He is a good student average around 80-85% in most subjects though higher in science.

Thanking you in advance!

Difficult timing giving that Chelmsford has grammar schools! The 11 plus in Chelmsford is the 3rd week in September, so if you are interested in KEGS as a secondary school you need to register him to take the 11 plus now. You can register as an out of catchment now and then would need to get the address changed as soon as possible once you have moved, so he is treated as in catchment.

My dc are teenagers now but went to Barnes Farm and we were very happy with that (outstanding Ofsted). I have family at Newlands Spring school as well and that seems to do well.

Secondary school is the trickier thing as you need to decide if he is going to do the 11+ or not. From what you have said he sounds bright enough to give it a go but you need to register by the end of July. My two are at the grammars and we have been very happy with both schools. However, Chelmsford also has good comprehensives.
