'Tricky' questions having to be dealt with under time constraints are also unrealistic. Doing arithmetic etc quickly and accurately is genuinely useful but IRL if you have a knotty problem which isn't immediately obvious to you, you mull it over and inspiration strikes later ( which is what happened to dd with the sweets one).

Littleham · 05/06/2015 11:13

She could hear several people crying in Maths yesterday Oh Tranquility isn't that heart breaking?

bigTilly - so sorry the evil Edexel Maths paper has hit your dd so hard. Hope it is better today.

Errol - I seem to have lived on the year 12 and 13 support sites for the last couple of years so we definitely need one next year.

DD said Music was fine this morning. She really enjoys it and wants to do it at A Level if they run it. However she is the only one out of her year group of 300 to want to take it. They have said they will run the A Level just for her (which is amazing if they do). Will be a bit weird in class!

She is revising Biology atm - hoping for nice questions this afternoon.

dingit · 05/06/2015 11:13

Another who doesn't finish until the 19th. No exams until Tuesday, so all is fairly calm, dreading the final week.
I am Shock at the maths, poor kids. Worried for ds in two years Hmm

TheWordFactory · 05/06/2015 11:19

DD has had it drilled into her (by school and us) that in maths, if a question alludes you MOVE On and keep going until you alight on something easier!

she said she 'finished' yesterday's paper with 45 mins to go, yesterday ie finished the ones she felt she could have a stab at. Which left a fair few horrors to go back to.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2015 11:20

Hopefully this together with the concerns about the new spec it won't be too bad by then.

LotusLight · 05/06/2015 11:21

Music was fine. There seemed to be 10 marks for some Indian music listening question which they thought was rather a lot. Some Schoenberg too of which they are not a fan. The written paper is only about 40% of the exam mark anyway.

Home straight left now - only history next week.

They started 2 minutes early which wasn't very fair on a boy who was 4 minutes late for whom they had been looking. So when he arrived the listening recording was already going and had been for 4 minutes.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2015 11:24

Word, that's good advice. I suspect this paper may have thrown the kids who are good at maths and expect to be able to attempt all the questions more than those who know to do the doable.

HSMMaCM · 05/06/2015 11:27

We'll definitely keep this going, as I'm nosey I'd love to know how all your DCs get on and we might be able to help each other out with what comes next, depending on whether they get their grades or not.

LotusLight · 05/06/2015 11:34

If mine get 9 Es I might well not want to share results!

Actually my biggest problem is twins doing identical subjects comparing marks with each other, when in fact they are different children and I don't mind at all if their results differ. I hope they don't show off to each other when they triumph over the other twin with a higher grade.

SunnyBaudelaire · 05/06/2015 11:46

are they identical twins lotus? Mine are twins too but so different in looks (and gender) and size that a lot of people do not realise it, so less comparing....
Now then, you know very well that your twins are not going to get '9 E's' !!

TeenAndTween · 05/06/2015 11:48

Hi Sunny hope things are a bit calmer at your house today.

tbtc · 05/06/2015 11:50

My DS doesn't finish until the 22nd (and I am not in the country on that day....sob), though after next week it's just 2 more so the main stress will be over.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2015 11:51

There seem to be a lot of twins on this thread, presumably more support needed. Must be hard whether they're very similar or chalk and cheese.

SunnyBaudelaire · 05/06/2015 11:52

thank you teen...yes all a bit better......and the motorbike got a broken chain! My prayers were answered!
Now we just have one more exam, on Tuesday, then we are done. Thank goodness for the BTEC Science (no exam) NVQ Engineering (no exam) and Art ( done).
So sad to hear about people actually sobbing in the exam...DD's main excuse for not going was 'too many people coughing' and 'questions I cannot answer'.
No reply from the school re a resit.....no surprises there then.
Hang in there people!

cleanmachine · 05/06/2015 12:01

We finish on the 19th too. It's such a long and exhausting process. Thank god for weekends.

Littleham · 05/06/2015 12:08

Could the motorbike chain stay broken Sunny? Wink Reminds me of my Mum and brother. He threatened to get a motorbike so my Mum went and bought an axe. She told him there was no point wasting his money as she would chop it up! Really made me laugh - she would have done it too. Grin

Glad things are better today.

LineRunner · 05/06/2015 12:13

19th here, too.

DS just having early lunch before he goes in for Biology. I don't think my own mother ever even knew that I was doing O Levels. She certainly didn't know or give a shit about which subjects I was taking. I don't remember even discussing my results. She was probably at the hairdresser's.

HSMMaCM · 05/06/2015 12:18

Unlikely to get 9 Es. There'd certainly be a U or a D in there to break it up. Grin

GloriaSmud · 05/06/2015 12:29

Aw Sunny, just read your posts yesterday ~ can I add a late bunch of Flowers for you and glad that things are better this morning.

Just about to take DD1 in for Biology. She's actually spent this morning doing some revising for it, which I'm slightly Shock at!

Sidge · 05/06/2015 12:51

DD finishes the 19th, then has her prom that night which will be a lovely way to end her exams and school years!

As there's a strict no-alcohol rule at prom (and rightly so) I may open a bottle of prosecco and give her a glass to feel all grown up and special before she goes! (as well as giving her a bit of Dutch courage to face the bitchy girls, she's quite quirky my DD and is nervous of being pulled apart verbally for her dress etc).

She had music this morning, Biology this afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Nydj · 05/06/2015 12:59

LineRunner same here regarding my O levels. I am finding this thread so helpful in finding out what was in DS's exams as he is pretty monosyllabic until I ask about specific questions from the paper. Also finishing on 19th.

dingit · 05/06/2015 13:11

Sidge, I was thinking the same thing. My dds dress is a bit different, bright red, but she's got black shoes and bag, she has her own style, a bit rock chick/ Taylor swift/ goth. I hope she doesn't get pulled apart by class bitch!

LineRunner · 05/06/2015 13:12

Nydj Sounds like my DS - he was amazed I knew about Hannah's sweets! Then he twigged and said, 'Mumsnet?' Smile

Eve · 05/06/2015 13:15

School have just emailed out predicted paper for maths on Monday.. how can they predict?

DS has maths revision clinic 10-3 on sunday.. cant say the school are not putting in any effort?

bigTillyMint · 05/06/2015 13:17

Mine get mistaken for twins, despite DS being 19months younger than DD, and now 9 inches taller!

Sunny, glad to hear your DS's chain brokeWink

DD should be doing her Biology right now. Please, please let it be better than the maths
