Y7 friendship angst...

Just had to get that off my chest.

My policy is to stay out of it but occasionally you just get dragged in. Thank God it's half term next week!

I have been there. One thing to remember is that friendships are very fluid at this age, and when you can't see an end to it it can drag you down. DD had problems in year 7 and the first term of year 10, but she has some nicer friends now. I hope things work out for your child.

Can I add my arghhhh!!! as well? It's agony isn't it?

DD says that people in her mentor group don't like her, but she doesn't seem worried and also seems to have plenty of people she talks about and gets on with.

But there's just so much meanness and falling out. Bloody hell what a roller coaster

Another one here going through this. My DD doesn't seemed to have found any new friends in year 7. She's sticking with the same toxic group she moved up from primary with.

Looking forward to year 8 where I believe they mix things up a bit by setting more lessons.

Luckily my DD has avoided the toxic group from her primary but hasn't really palled up. She says that the girls in the group she spends most time with ignore Her and she feels like she's on the outside. I suspect some of the others feel like this too and they're finding their way. DD has met up with a couple of them outside school and they often go to Starbucks or somewhere after school but it is very slow in going anywhere. I must be patient!

sheldon & davros I think patience is the answer. Hard though!

I've been reliably informed by my sis, who has seen it all 3 times over with girls and a boy, that it does get better. As long as it doesn't tip over into bullying which should be stamped on immediately, we just have to sit it out, encourage them to talk to lots of people, take advantage of clubs and eventually they find like minded lovely friends.

Year 7 was great for the first two and a half terms and lulled me into a force sense of security. Things finally started to settle down this summer term. Found that me asking questions only made things worse so withdrew, just asked general questions and let her come to me if she wanted. She hasn't been bullied and her grades are still good so I try not to worry too much. Reading stuff on here helps, knowing it's not just your child and that others have got through it.
